The Optimism Thread

I needed this. I was 4 in 1982 so I have no memory of the run they had. As a Brewer fan, I have no idea how to handle this. I had no expectations in 08 so the win was just a bonus.

But now that they have the potential to go deeper, I just wanted it to be over quickly.

But I get a game 5 at Miller Park that I'm fortunate enough to have tickets to. What more can I ask for as a fan.

Win or lose, I'll be out there giving it my all. It's been a great season. I see no reason for it to end now.

GO BREWERS!

I'm sure this was mentioned on Saturday- but I was tuning the broadcasters out a lot.... I was not aware to what extent Gallardo has dominated Arizona in his career. Counting Saturday, he's won all 6 starts with a 1.18 ERA and a WHIP of .87. I like those numbers.

This made me feel really good, from the same guy who brought us the great news about Grienke (Jim Breen's twitter feed):

'Talked to someone connect w/ #Brewers organization today. He's confident in a Brewers win: "I don't think Prince will let them lose."'

The best reasons for optimism are...

1) So far this season every break has gone the Brewers way

2) The Brewers are playing at home

3) Gallardo is pitching

4) The 2 best teams in the post season might be eliminated prior to the Brewers having to face them, creating the best possible match ups for Greinke who thrives on getting hitters out with pitches out of the zone. I don't believe he matched up well against the Phillies or Yankees at all. The Yankees are currently losing 1-3...

I'd much rather face St Louis and Detroit than Philadelphia and New York. After having good fortune all year the Brewers have a realistic chance of getting even more good fortune in the post season, the stars are aligning perfectly for a WS berth that I didn't think was possible given the paper thin depth of the organization and quality of opposition the Brewers were expected to face all season.

I believe in Prince, the Hart, Brauny, the small t-plush, Yo's curve ball, high fiber, good scotch, that the novels of Tony LaRussa are self-indulgent, overrated crap. I believe Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone. I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing Astroturf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, long distance home-runs, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep October celebrations that last through November. Go Brewers, I Believe!!

The more I think about it, there is nobody on our roster I'd rather have starting than Yo. Not much seems to phase him.

Braun and Prince live for moments like these. While I could be worried that Plush and Rickie aren't hitting, or that Yuni's being Yuni, it's time to focus on the job JHJ has done and have faith someone unheralded will come up big. It crossed my mind this may be Counsell time.

I'm going to go Al Davis here and say "Just win, baby."
