Impressed with Lucroy's Leadership

gregmag

Sorry if people have talked about this generally or specifically before, but I'm really becoming impressed with Lucroy's emergence as a team leader, despite his being rushed up last year and still being very young. First there was his firm but measured dig at LaRussa back during that tense series with the Classies in Milwaukee. Now check out this article about Greinke (which is also very good and interesting in its own right):

Add this to the recent interesting analysis of Lucroy's talent for getting strike calls by framing pitches, and I'm starting to see a guy who may actually possess those fabled "intangibles" that people are always going on about. Too bad he can't hit.

Not sure anything needs to be said usually. It's a matter of pausing the game and letting the pitcher regroup. He really didn't need to say anything to Saito, just point at the scoreboard. Speaking of Saito, I did notice Lucroy used a different routine behind the plate when Saito was pitching, Some signs I haven't seen before, and real exagerated motions. Not sure what that was all about, but as lonf as Saito did that's all that matters.
