Autographs before the game by dugout?

zingsheim

I'm going to the game tonight and have been out of the "before game autograph crowd" for about a year now. (kid) I'd like to try tonight. Do the players still sign before the game by the dugout? I havn't seen this happening too much sice I've been there at other games this year. Any info would be great. Thanks!

from what I have heard, you're not allowed down by the dugouts anymore before the game unless you have a ticket to sit down there. I think many of the season ticket holders were getting upset that people would be in their seats or in their way.

on one hand, I can understand where they are coming from, they paid the big money to sit there, those are their seats.

on the other hand, they are there all the time, whats the big deal for someone to try to get autographs 30 min before the game starts.

For the most part, as long as someone is signing, the usher will let you stand there for a second. Some ushers are really power tripping this year though. All the drama started because of the people rushing the front rows a few minutes before per game ceremonies. If you get there early enough you can still manage a few sigs though.

Sunday, about an hour before the game Ned Yost signed for about 20 minutes, Tony Gwynn for about 5 minutes and Prince for about 30 seconds. All right to the left of the Brewers dugout.

I've had front row field seats 3 or 4 times this year in the main bowl. Each time we got there early and each time someone stood near us, crowded our seats...whatever, trying to get a ball or an autograph before the game . Each time I just said to myself, "no big deal, as long as they move once the game starts". Hard hard is that?

On the other hand, I'm one of those people that want ushers checking tickets. If I pay $85 to sit behind home plate, I sure as heck don't want some guy with a Uecker ticket sneaking his way down there. That happened earlier this year and I was kind of upset. Here I am dropping $170 to take an employee out to the game and some guy with a $5 terrace ticket comes sneaking his way down. I am probably in the minority here, but I'd like some protection for my investment.

(I also realize I'm kind of playing both side of the fence here, but what ever.)

actually, i'm pretty sure you're not in the minority here. There was a thread last year that talked about moving seats and I would say that the overall feeling on this board was that its not good to jump seats.

Thats good to hear. I remember thinking it was so cool to sneak into the "good seats" and that the people that got upset were just cranky old people.

I guess I'm a cranky old person now (at 30).

I'm confused. Was someone without the $85 ticket sitting in your seats, or just in your section? If it's just in your section, how does that detract from your investment? You still see the same game from the same angle. Was it tall people that sat in front of you? Were they being loud and obnoxious? If it was none of those, and it was just people sitting near you that didn't pay as much for a ticket, I see no reason that should bother you in the slightest.

So, you and I both buy the same.... lets say, bobble head.

You pay $85 for yours from a store. I pay $5 for mine from a guy on ebay. What happens to the value of your investment. Is it still "worth" $85?

Say the guy on ebay sells 100 more for $5 each. What happens to the value of your investment. Is it still "worth" $85?

And to be clear, he was a short guy and no, he didn't sit in my seat. And I didn't call an usher, I didn't "tell on him", it just bothered me.

If Capuano wasn't starting, you'd be almost guaranteed to get his autograph over on the outfield side of the dugout before the game, but he doesn't sign on days he starts.

I saw a few other players sign a few times but other than that it didn't look like many did pre-game.

You are so right. Cappy, if nothing else, takes care of the fans. If I had more time I'd post some of the great stories I have about him. He talks, poses for pic's ... he's great.

Off to the game...

Absolutely. It's worth whatever I was willing to pay for it and if a bobblehead doll is something I value at more than $85 it was a good move, regardless of what others are doing.

Now, since a bobblehead is more of a "collector's item" it's not really a fair comparison. If I was buying it "as an investment" and it wasn't really worth $85 as determined by the market, than it was a bad investment. But a seat at a baseball game isn't really something that goes up or down in value once you're sitting in it. If a particular seat is worth $85 to you, buy it and enjoy the game. It's a good buy regardless of what anyone else is doing.

I will. And as long as the Brewers agree with me and at least try to protect what I perceive as an "investment" in a good evening of baseball, I'm happy. Anyhow, I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree.

(And, yeah, I knew the bobblehead analogy didn't quite fit 100%, but oh well, I was all jacked up about going to the game.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif)

I too have had front row seats a couple of time. The issue is, I enjoy my personal space. I'd like to arrive a half hour or so before the game and soak in the atmosphere from my front row seat. It's kind of hard to do when your staring at someone's butt.

Some people seem to have no awareness of other's personal space. I'm a big personal space person.
