Out-of-market (hey, anyone in NYC?) viewing parties

bernieh

I just thought I'd try to start up a post that helps us out-of-market fans that don't know (m)any other nearby Crew fans hook up with each other and revel in each playoff win together!

I'll start it off with a quick intro - I'm a born-and-raised New Yorker who grew up a die-hard Yankee fan but got bored with them somewhere during the late '90s, and now I'm a HUGE Brewer fan. Naturally, I'm a rare breed around these parts, so I usually cheer the Crew on by my lonesome in my action-figure adorned man-cave. Now that the Brewers are on their UNSTOPPABLE MARCH OF DESTINY I'm lookin' to get out and catch some playoff games with other NYC-area fans!

I'll start it off in the replies below for Sunday's NLDS Game 2. Everyone feel free to organize your viewing parties too, from wherever you may hail...

(If there's a better way to do this, uh, lemme know)

I’ll be with two of my buddies (Mets fans, but hey, what else are they gonna do this time of year?) at Tempest Bar about a half hour before game time. If it were a weeknight we’d go to Kettle of Fish but they’re gonna be overrun tomorrow by the Packers crowd. About Tempest Bar, my buddy found this – you gotta respect that! So we figured we’d give it a shot.

Anybody wanna join us? Or anyone know if the action’s gonna be better somewhere else?

I can't get to NYC, but it's nice to see you posting here again, bernieh. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

For those of you not in Arizona on Tuesday, I intend to be in the bf.net chat room as long as the software works. Glad I saved some leave time for October!

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.

I think it would be cool to have some sort of bf.net member map. Some sort of a choropleth map so that you can indicate density of members, as well as a way to find fans in your region. Something like this Population Density Map but it also lets you hover over an area and view the members who live there. Not useful for you Milwaukee Folks (unless you are traveling), but would be cool for us out-of-staters...

Obviously there may be some privacy concerns and it should probably be an opt-in sort of thing, but could be cool.

You could do that with Google Earth.

You guys should check out Kettle of Fish in Greenwich Village. They have big gatherings for Packer games and apparently play all of the Brewers regular season games. I am sure they will get a pretty good turnout for the playoffs.

Luckily, I have been in Wisconsin for most of this run, but I will be back in Stockholm for the World Series. For the Super Bowl, bars stay open because it is a one time event and there are enough football fans willing to stay up past 4 a.m. to watch the game. It is quite an experience to see it when abroad. Baseball on the other hand doesn't get the draw from the expats like the NFL does and I will be stuck with mlb.tv or a slingbox.

I spent about a month of this summer in Finland. They play a game called Pesäpallo (Finnish baseball) that is pretty popular. I can't really figure out what is happening in the game, there seems to be much more defensive strategy as they have more movement before the "pitch." There are several youtube videos if people want to check out a little of the game. This one is pretty humorous especially the taunting and the way the decide who hits first.
