2011 Highlights

FVBrewerFan

Before the Brewers eventually lose their first playoff game, and we see 1,000 posts blaming RR, Yuni, McGehee, etc. I figured we have a couple days to remind ourselves how special this year has been. Feel free to add to the list.

- Franchise record 96 wins.

- Over 3,000,000 attendance.

- NL Leading 185 HRs. 2nd in OPS.

- Axford. NL leader in saves despite blowing 2 at the start of the year. Looking back, what an incredible season he had!

- Braun and Fielder. 'Nuf said.

- RR. Yes, I have criticized him. We'll never know what Macha or a different manager would have done with this line-up, but you can't take away the 96 wins from RR, faults and all.

-Melvin. Similar story. He didn't do everything right, but Greinke and Marcum worked out according to plan. Morgan/Plush added right before the season. KRod and JHJ great late season adds.

-Despite all the fear of choking down the stretch, they did not really ever come close to that.

- Just the general sense of calm no matter who the starting pitcher was on any given night.

-Front row Amy.

This seems like a good place to share this.

Five teams graphed from start of season through Game 162: Phillies, Brewers, Cards, Braves, Pirates.

Easy to see where the highlight run began (which almost exactly coincides with where the then first-place Pirates fell off a cliff). Presented this way, it's evident that once the Brewers ran away and hid they were never really that close to getting caught. It's also evident that what happened "to" Atlanta was really a lot more of what the Cardinals did for themselves (though the 5 game skid to end the year was the killer).
