Well, looks like we can forget about Narveson getting a start. Really stupid reasoning there from RRR in my opinion. He could just throw Narveson out there for 3-4 innings, and then fill-in with the bullpen. If he pitches well he could probably go 5 if he got another start later on in the World Series if we get there. I just don't understand why he would rather throw Marcum out there to get rocked, and likely get removed by the 4th anyway, when he could get 3-4 solid innings from Narveson.

It's not just stupid reasoning. If he believes that, then it's his fault for not being prepared for just such a situation. There's always the possibility you are going to need a different starter than you had planned to go with. Who decided to skip Narveson in September anyway?

The reasoning though is completely bogus. Narveson is stretched out enough for 80 pitches at least. He's got all offseason to recover. In fact, he's fresher than any guy on the staff.

The difference between a Gallardo and a Lohse is not nearly as large as people seem to be making it out to be, it is 1 run over a full game. It doesn't turn a game into an auto win or something. I don't really like the idea of trying to play pitching matchups. Now if it looks like rain and they start the game anyway I could see starting Wolf instead of Gallardo tonight.

I don't have his Game 3 start against Arizona recorded, but Marcum looked to be shaking off Lucroy a lot on Monday. I don't know if this was something common throughout the season, because it's not typically something I watch for. Wasn't watching for it Monday, but instead just happened to notice it as the game played out.

Marcum only threw 15 2/3 innings this season to catchers not named "Lucroy," so I can't imagine they're not on the same page, but it really looked like they had different ideas on how to handle the Cardinals hitters. It's easy to blame Marcum because of how the start ended up playing out, but I won't do that until I know if there's been a history of Marcum frequently shaking off his catcher.

Marcum has been throwing his changeup much much less lately than he did throughout the season. It hasn't really been explained why (maybe he's struggling physically a little bit and doesn't have faith he can locate it)....but I would imagine Lucroy was calling for it often (seeing as it is Marcum's most effective pitch) and Shaun didn't want to throw it.

It's easy enough to have Marcum start but give him a short leash and put Narveson in there if needed. I can't imagine taking Marcum completely out of the rotation, however.
This is exactly right. If he leaves Marcum out there to drown again in Game 6, kill RR then. But he only has so many pitchers at his disposal and he's got to at least see if Marcum can get it together.

I know this is probably a dumb idea, but if it looks like it will start raining hard in the 2nd or 3rd and there will likely be a delay, I'd start Hawkins. I feel pretty confident in him being able to give you 2 strong innings and then turning it over to Yo after the delay. I know the flip side of the coin is if there isn't a delay then you have to make sure you get Yo warmed up in time for the 3rd, but I'd at least watch the radar if I were Ron.

There is no way this game gets played without a delay. I wouldn't start Yo. I'd save him for tomorrow and go Johnny wholestaff as much as possible tonight.

I'm not a weather expert, but I have monitoring the radar. Seems to me that it's very possible that the game gets played without any rain delays.
