I know I've read some, but not all of this thread, so forgive me if I re-hash something.

Yahoo sports lists the top 10 options for Pittsburgh at 1B. Thought a few options were interesting

Ryan Doumit is an out of the box type thought. Could be interesting.

Nick Swisher would be a safe choice. Pretty consistently a mid-800 hitter.

Anyone know anything about Adam Lind? Would a change of scenery help the guy?

The Pirates should just go with Derrick Lee. Otherwise. we should gladly take him.
I'm with you on that. I really want Lee signed to, at the least, platoon with Gamel at 1B. If Gamel struggles Lee could probably be a nice stopgap playing everyday. He still has something left in the tank. He proved that last year.

It'd be nice if a guy like Jonny Gomes had experience at 1B. He could be had relatively cheaply and kills LHP. You'd get pretty solid production out of your 1B platoon for a very modest price. I don't see any free agent 1B available that can mash lefties like Gomes, though.

With it now looking like Pujols to the Marlins is very possible, we may a shot at Gaby Sanchez. The Marlins need pitching, so they might want one of our starting pitchers though. I also saw that the Cubs are thought to be front runners for Sanchez if this happens. Because he'd be a cost-effective building block for them. That would put them out of the Fielder race, which also would make things interesting.

While I agree that the Angels will almost certainly have to trade either Morales or Trumbo, I don't think the Brewers will get involved. We have more pressing needs in my opinion (shortstop). It's looking like this off-season will really lack the big splash that last off-season had. With Gamel, McGehee and Green in the mix, we have a decent amount of flexibility at the infield corner positions.

You don't have an Adam Wainwright. Easily the best gentlemen in all of sports. You don't have the amount of real good old American men like the Cardinals do. Holliday, Wainwright, Skip, Berkman those 4 guys are incredible people

While I agree we have in house options for 1B, I don't see Melvin not investigating what it would take to get Morales. Doug likes his "proven" players more than a minor leaguer. (Granted Morales didn't play in 2011) .... I guess I just don't vision Doug saying Gamel at 1B, Green at 3B and McGehee will start a few times a week at 3B and 1B. I guess I will only believe that scenario when it is opening day and Green and Gamel are both starting. Until then, I just don't see Melvin standing pat
