Logan Morrison

Recommended Posts

My question is, what would it cost the Brewers to get him from the Marlins? I think he'd be a perfect fit to replace Prince in 2012 and beyond.
Braun or Gallardo which one do you want to give up?

The Marlins are not going to give up on this player that easily so it is going to cost the Brewers a lot. He is definitely not worth Braun or Gallardo but the Marlins still love him and are not going to part with him very easily.

i'd take morrisons attitude issues over gamels any day. i dont think gamel+ 1 or 2 prospects for morrison is that crazy at all, especially if mckeon is back next year. he seems to have very little patients for that stuff. i'm not sure how much use they have for gamel though, they have sanchez at first and dominguez at 3rd(should be ready next season). i heard they might be looking at trading morrison to the white sox for ozzie guillen(coach for player trades have happened in the past, chicago asked for stanton for guillen a couple years ago). gamel might fit in with the sox a little better.

I believe this is what Briggs is referencing by possible attitude issues. I think those are some attitude problems I'd be happy the Brewers take a chance on. He has still put up some pretty good numbers despite having a really tough year in terms of personal issues. After having an offseason to clear his head and make sense of what's going on in his life, I think he'll come back guns a blazin next year and his all out play. I wonder if Peralta or Thornburg and Khris Davis would be enough for him.

Actually a really good story from ESPN that doesn't involve NY or Boston.

I think there is something here...LMorrison and Nunez/Oviedo (you choose the name moving forward) for Gamel and Braddock would be welcomed in Miami...at least as a starting place. Winning and a budding tradition would keep him in line...that is why Weeks, Gallardo, Braun are signed longterm and the Kapler/Edmonds/Kotsays are brought in yearly. Nyjer was a misfit too...until now.

It is not a bad idea...

In trading for Morrison, the Brewers would be able to shift someone to his *better* defensive position. A rare defensive win for this organization.

I love the idea, and he may well be available if the Marlins go on a spending spree. Wouldn't cost close to Braun or Gallardo... what?

I think Sanchez will be more available this off season than Morrison will be. But for Morrison it will cost a Braun or Gallardo type talent. I guess I should of had put that part in my post earlier. I just don't believe the Brewers have that kind of talent to give up.

Why is that Morrison's talent? His line in MLB is .260/.351/.458 with very poor defense in the OF. He looks to be an average to slightly above average 1B, a guy who has value until he gets expensive. Now he can gain power as he ages and as he moves out of Florida but then you have to add in his other issues. The Marlins aren't going to give him away but in no way is he worth a top flight talent at this point.

Inexpensive left handed power bat that is still getting better. Perfect replacement for Prince. The Brewers might not have a whole lot that Florida would like at this time. Would it take trading Hart, Wolf, or Marcum for prospects and flipping them to Florida. If Melvin truly doesn't think Gamel can be above average this is the type of player they need to complement Braun.

Sounds a lot like a guy we have in our own system named Mat Gamel who hit .311 with 28 HR last season in AAA. He has a total of less than 200 career big league at bats. Why would you not want him to play full time to see what he can do. I still have high hopes for him.

So that two years makes you want to trade away more of our depleted

farm system before you even know what Gamel can do at the big league

level? Weirder... more weird...

No, actually the point of that is we keep talking about Mat Gamel and Logan Morrison is two years younger with 500 more ABs in the major leagues already. Either Gamel isn't that good, or the Brewers have a problem with going with younger players, or both. In Gamel's case, I think most people around here are on board with giving him a shot. Shoot over to a Wily Peralta thread (and others) and you'll see the mindset of needing more time in the minors...which again is weird. Once a "prospect" gets in to his mid to late 20s, and they're still not helping out the big club, the shine comes off quite a bit, doesn't it? It does for me as far as expectations go, that's for sure.

Anyway, where did I say Gamel should be traded?

Never said anything about Gamel being traded. We would have to trade something to get Morrison right?
