Marlins release Cameron for 'detrimental conduct'

Seems like conflicting stories with in the same article:

However, Fox Sports' Jon-Paul Morosi says the Marlins wanted to play younger players and Cameron wanted to spend more time with his children.

"Not easy," manager Jack McKeon said when asked how Cameron took it. "Who would? But he knew he wasn't going to play much the rest of the year. We're going to go with some kids."

He doesn't look to have much left in the tank at this point, but I could see him getting a spring training invite somewhere if he wants to keep playing next season.

His numbers with Florida aren't far off his career numbers: low batting average, high obp compared to batting average, solid power for a good defensive CF'er. If he can still play defense he could fill out a contender's roster very nicely in 2012.

Not a class move...I think we all knew Cammy was done after this season and was it THAT hard for them to keep him on the roster for a few more games?

BTW, Marlins, if you don't want LoMo I'm sure a lot of teams would like to have him and his 1B/OF flexibility (hint hint, Doug Melvin).

Cam hit .240 with a .331 OBP once he got healthy in Florida. If he can still play CF, I could see him being a valuable 4th OF or RH part of a CF platoon.

one can presume he's a leader on that team of younger players. if he did something aggregious, maybe it really was the right message to send to those younger players to let him go instead of just shaking a finger at him and pretending it didn't happen.
