2011-09-07 Brewers (Greinke) at Cardinals (Carpenter) - [Brewers lose, 2-0]

pretendastronaut

I have no love lost for the Cards, none whatsoever, but will somebody please tell Prince Fielder to go sit on Morgan until Nyger promises to keep his mouth shut. I mean geez, even if Carpenter started it , just point to the standings, laugh, and move on. No need to egg it on. Somebody tell Morgan this is not the last year of professional baseball and that the Brewers will have to play the Cardinals again in possibly in 2011 but more likely in 2012. And if history has taught us anything it is that the Cardinals have VERY LONG memories.

I hope you guys do well this year, I really do (and it pains me to say it), but Nyger needs to keep his mouth shut and just play baseball. What he is doing is childish and immature.

So he should have had the foresight to tuck a newspaper in his back pocket in the event that Carpenter cursed him out.

Ultimately this was between two guys with a history of altercations and I see no reason to point any fingers. It takes two to tango. Carpenter should keep his mouth shut and Morgan should let it go.

I think Pujols is really the key to the whole thing. Regardless of if Carp said something first (for which I'd like some proof because it doesn't look like he had time to say something first) Carpenter was walking away from Morgan, Morgan appeared to be done jawing, and it probably all ends there if Pujols doesn't sprint across the diamond yelling at Morgan. "Oddly" on the Cardinals broadcast they almost completely ignored the fact that Pujols went chasing after Morgan.

The whole thing reminded me of Pujols going after Villy a few years back for getting excited on the mound. That caused a lot of bad blood that was really instigated by Pujols too.

When Morgan got kicked out he said 'he said it first, so he should be kicked out too'. I wouldn't be surprised if Morgan was just trying to fight for the sake of trying to get Carpenter out of the game. Unless he gets suspended, it doesn't really matter. What's the negative? His reputation goes down?

I gotta say, I think this makes all the sense in the world.

Honestly, if Nyjer avoids a suspension for what happened in that dust-up, he should be thanking Prince for grabbing onto him and pulling him to the clubhouse. (I've seen - and corrected - Brewer fans for the same misspelling....just wish I understood where it came from.)

Morgan was clearly dropping f-bombs when he struck out. Knowing Morgan (from the safety of my TV set -- I'm not watching a replay as I type this), I assume he was directing those at himself, rather than the opposition. The TV coverage didn't have a good view on Carpenter, so I don't know when he said what he has apparently admitted saying. That also makes it difficult to time when Pujols made his break towards the 3rd base dugout.

The thing I find odd is that Pujols ran past the pitcher's mound; if you're only out there to protect your guy....why run so far past the mound toward Morgan? Whether intentionally or unintentionally, Pujols made things worse.

Why?

Just like the seed for birds, Nyjer is often misspelled Nyger, both spellings would be pronounced the same...I'm not even sure if Nyger, in reference to the bird seed, is a misspelling or just an alternate spelling. The Nyjer spelling for the bird seed was, I believe, only invented out of the fear that people are to dumb to understand that it is a long "i" and a soft "g" in Niger, you know like the country in Africa, Niger, which is pronounced exactly like Morgan's first name.

"Alberta couldn't see Plush if she had her gloves on!!! Wat was she thinking running afta Plush!!! She never been n tha ring!!!" - Nyjer's tweet

I can't believe he had the audacity to tweet about baseball jesus. The Cards might camp out in his backyard in order to throw at him in the off season.

That was awesome!! I literally laughed out loud at that one! I also tweeted back to Nyjer that the reason Albert chased after him is because Albert knows Nyjer is money and Albert is all about chasing the money.

The origin of Nyjer's name…
Jerry Crasnick wrote:[/url][/b]
As it turns out, Nyjer Morgan's first name has nothing to do with birdseed. The parents, Carl and Trina, went to school during the height of the Black Panther movement in the 1970s, and they were partial to names of Muslim or African origin. Morgan has a sister Naima, which is Arabic for "tranquil,'' and a younger brother Kwame. His parents named him Nyjer in reference to the Niger River, which runs 2,600 miles and is the third longest river in Africa behind the Nile and the Congo.

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.

Hmm, same thought I had about your ridiculous scolding over the misspelling of Nyjer. The was nothing "unfortunate" about it, Nyjer, Nyger, and Niger are all pronounced exactly the same. As indicated above his name is actually just an alternate spelling of Niger, which is a river in Africa, as well as a country.
