I saw the thread and was going to come here screaming, "Copyright infringement!" But then I remembered that I never put a copyright on it. And then I remembered that I pretty much stole the idea from what others have done in prior seasons. And THEN I remembered that you saved me time in compiling all that... so COOL! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

I would concur on the POY honors. Green and Peralta.

It was an ironic year. We started out thinking that the system was bare at the top, but the best group (production-wise) was at AAA with Gamel, Gindl, Green, Maldonado, Schafer and Fiers. They might not all have really high ceilings, but all should be able to contribute to the MLB club (if allowed).

Yeah, I wasn't sure how kosher it was to take the reigns, but I had the time this afternoon & was curious about the topic. Apologies if you were looking forward to compiling this... but like you said, it really takes a long time!

Awesome post!

It was an interesting year.

Continued to romp: Thornburg, Fiers, Gindl, gamel

Disappointing: Rivas, Farris, Wheeler, ke. Davis, Morris, komatsu (for being dealt), Rogers

Back from the dead: Anundsen, Green, Wooten, prince, big Brock, Shafer, brownstein

On the radar: Miller, Nelson, Merklinger, d. Richardson, khris Davis, Ross, a. Jones, Ardis, Rivera, maldanado, mittlestaedt, Heckathorn, zarraga (now switch hitting)

Huge jump: almonte, green, peralta

Just to name a few

At the very least, the Brewers learned they have four or five really legit prospects in Green, Fiers, Peralta, Gindl, Schafer, and Thornburg.

Now if they could only develop a shortstop.....El Pirata I'm looking in your direction.

Josh Prince didn't have an amazing season or anything, but posted a similar slash line to Gennett with BC: .281/.332/.386/.718 (249 AB), 24/32 (75%) on SB attempts. Prince had enough of a bat for a SS at the advanced A level this season. Since he was repeating at BC in '11, I'd have to guess he'll be pushed to Huntsville next season. 2012 will be his age-24 season, & obviously immensely important for Prince if he wants to make an impact at the MLB level.

Apologies if you were looking forward to compiling this...

Nope, no worries. I had gotten as far as the two POY candidates and wondering how to handle guys that played at two levels vs. guys that played OK the whole time at one level (like BK or Kh Davis vs. Morris). So, that means I thought about it for 30 seconds.

DHonks had a nice idea about breakout/surprise players also. So I take a shot at that:

Surprises:

A: TJ. Mittelstaedt - Really came out of no where. Played in AZ last year (at 22) and didn't hit this well. Still too old for the level and not much power for LF, but put up a nice year.

A+: BK has it his way. Morris' 19 homers breaks the record, but Kjeldgaard's 18 in half a season was impressive.

AA: Maldonado - didn't deserve to be at AA, but crusty veterans at AAA pushed him down. And he showed that he didn't deserve it. Now he is in the bigs, while Nieves and Rivera are... not.

AAA: Green. Not too big of a surprise at AA (his 3rd attempt), but he kept it going and kept getting better as the year went along. What could have been if he hadn't broken his hamate bone in the first place...

Hello again:

A: Jimmy Nelson - Far from dominant, but showing a little promise at least.

A+: Josh Prince - Nothing stunning, but Josh did what Josh needed to do in his second go at A+. If we had an MLB SS put up his numbers, BF.net would have 1/3rd less posts this past year.

AA: Robert Wooten - Didn't quite put up the numbers like he did prior to the dreaded TJ surgery, but was a nice solid year. Nearly 1K/IP.

AAA: Schafer - nice return from injury.

Josh Prince jumped out at me too...he's was rough last year, but did well this year...with nothing worth mentioning in front of him, he could easily be in AAA in has age 24 season, which would be as good or better than everyone we got excited about this year besides peralta and gindl

Green and Peralta are no doubters to me for the year...

biggest surprises: Brock!, Fiers!, Walla!

Biggest suck-ises: Every top 6 round draft pick first baseman ever not named prince fielder, declining k rates, and no innings pitched from our twin power 1st rounders

Erick Almonte? I'm confused.

And to add to the "huge jump" category... Santo Manzanillo

Ooops, I got my Latin names wrong...I couldn't remember Santo Manzanillo, so I types Rigoberto Almonte. What's with our (Rafael) Roque (Jose) Mercedes and (Victor) Santo(s) (Josias) Manzanillo combos?

Player A: 1.048 K/IP, 3.67 K/BB, .182 BAA, 0.66 H/IP, 0.94 WHIP, 126 IP, 34 G/18 GS

Player B: 1.042 K/IP, 2.66 K/BB, .233 BAA, 0.84 H/IP, 1.23 WHIP, 150.2 IP, 26 G/26 GS

I know that Peralta is the better prospect, but the award is Pitcher of the Year, not Prospect of the Year. Both very deserving, but I give the nod to Player A.

Batter - Taylor Green. I think that one might be unanimous.

...

I also vote for Fiers. Peralta is the better prospect, but Fiers had better production at both levels.

Fair enough. The main factor that put Peralta ahead of Fiers for me is age at level.

I can see both sides of the argument for Fiers and Peralta. Fiers' numbers as a starter (107.1 IP, 65 H, 1.43 ERA, 28 BB, 111 K) were insane. However Peralta is 4 years younger with better stuff and also had a very good numbers.

Peralta's always been a favorite of mine so I'll vote for him. Can't go wrong with either one though.

Yeah, no matter how you slice it its a 1A and 1B (for POY) situation. Peralta's dominance at the end of the season made me forget about his so-so start. I'll also say that while the Brewers have picked middling prospects for POY before, its normally only when there aren't many other good choices among the high-end prospects. I bet they pick Peralta.

TH just tweeted that it's Green and Fiers.

Flashback to the start of the season:

Fiers - After succeeding as a starter at A+ and AA the previous year, Fiers inexplicably starts the year in the AA bullpen.

Green - Green starts his 3rd consecutive year as the 3B starter at AA, after Wheeler (former SS) was promoted ahead of Green to AAA.

Now both are with the MLB club.

Yeah, you could say it was a good year for both of them. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif
