Home Internet Providers

mikevan1818

I asked this in my DirectTV thread, but I think I'll ask it here as its own thread. I'm sorry I constantly ask these questions, but I'm moving into my first apartment after college and trying to get all the ideas I can get.

Here's the deal: My finace and I are not going to get a landline for a phone because we have good cell phone deals and that works fine with us. However, we want DirectTV. That would mean we would have no landline and no cable TV.

I dont know much about this stuff, so my question is - Is there any way to get internet without cable or a landline? Let me know. Thanks.

DirecTV does want you to have a landline so that they can check your stuff and if you want to order any PPV stuff. As for internet, depending on where you are, there may be wireless internet providers. I'm in Sheboygan, and we looked at that, but we would have had to have put another antenna on the top of the house, and it would have cost a bit more. Depends on what you want to do.

You DO NOT need a phone line connected to have DirectTV. You just can't order PPV. Also, you do not need a landline for Roadrunner through Time Warner. My wife and I use cell phones only, which is the way to go these days. Why throw away $35.00 per month for a landline. Anyways, all they do is run a cable to the modem and you are all set.

You don't need to have cable TV to get cable internet, but you do need cables run into your house/apartment. If they are already wired for cable, then it's quite simple to sign up for broadband.

I used to do internet support for a cable provider and you can get internet only put they usually jack the price for it by about $10-15 a month for not having cable.

Similar to the phone company (AT&T). You can get a DSL "dry loop" without landline phone service but you end up paying between 40-50 bucks a month so it's pretty much a wash.
