That's the one critique I have of Melvin this year: not going harder after Furcal knowing that Yuni was not the answer. And of course, he becomes a Brewer killer as soon as he arrives in STL.
Tell me more about this inside information you have about Melvin's talks with the Dodgers.

This is not surprising. Momentum is huge in sports and we lost some of it in the opening game with balls barely not clearing the fence and all the self imposed mistakes and then more of it when Braun stumbled away a surefire inside the parker and lead. This is a divisional race we are finding ourselves in.

He's not on the Brewers right now. STL gave up nothing to get him. I'm sure our nothing could've beaten their nothing had we tried hard enough.

People need to stop saying that the Cardinals can't/won't catch us.

Is it possible? Yes.

Is it likely? No.

Is it even remotely likely, or predictable? No

But bigger leads have evaporated in less time. I'm not even saying that past collapses are predictive of what the Brewers will do this September, I'm just saying, it's not out of the realm of possibility just yet.

Anyone else feeling a chance at a brawl after Pujols possibly gets HBP next ab??? Just speculating.

They should plunk him. You're telling me LaRussa (King of Baseball) would accept Braun or Prince staring down their HR shots like Almighty Albert? At the very least, pitch him inside every pitch of the next AB.

Why do we care if we didn't get Furcal? He's only been any good against us, he's been miserable for the Cardinals otherwise. I'll take Furcal being good against us for 6 games, over having him be miserable for us for 50+ games.
Because he was an obvious upgrade over Yuni. For me, it has less to do with how he has performed against us and more to do with how much better he is historically than Yuni. It's just even more painfully obvious when he crushes another HR in the series and Yuni cost us the 1st game in the series with his pitiful bunt.

He's got like a .670 OPS since joining the Cards, which is better than Betancourt's. Plus, he's a vastly superior defender and baserunner. And we'd have more wins against the team we're battling in the division. We're more miserable because he isn't a Brewer.

Yuni cost ust the first game? I must have been watching a different game.

That they didn't trade for Furcal tells me that even if they had he wouldn't be starting at SS. For all the gnashing of teeth here about this issue, it's clear that the FO feels differently about this than most do. It seems pretty clear to me that even if the FO thought Furcal was better than Yuni they didn't think he was that much better to mess with the chemistry and continuity of a team that was doing just fine. And it's not like Furcal didn't bring a whole lot of question marks with him in terms of performance and health. As noted, other than a few HR against the Crew, he's done nothing for the Cards.
