Final: Brevard County 5, @Daytona 2

Nice start by Hiram Burgos, and Jon Pokorny fanned three in two innings, though he also allowed three hits and a run. Chuckie Caufield and Scott Krieger both went deep, and Scooter Gennett and Brent Dean each added a double. No D'Vontrey Richardson absent for the second straight day and third straight game. Kentrail Davis was 0-4, dropping his average to .243; he's not hitting for average, he's not hitting for power, and he's not drawing walks--well, at least with D'Vo out, he played center field...

Final: @Huntsville 7, Mobile 6

Well, Chase Wright is unsurprisingly still bad at baseball, but the relief corps was excellent, tossing five perfect innings with five strikeouts; Jim Henderson did the brunt of the work, going three frames with four whiffs. Santo Manzanillo tallied the other punchout and his seventh save. Zelous Wheeler had a big day, 3-3 with his eighth homer, four RBI, and a walk. Sean Halton also had three hits, including a double, and Lee Haydel added two and another two-bagger. Steffan Wilson also went deep, and Hainley Statia singled and drew two free passes. Khris Davis was 0-4.

The Stars answered the BayBears' five-run top of the 4th with three runs in the bottom half to cap the scoring:

Huntsville Bottom of the 4th
  • Anderson De La Rosa grounds out, shortstop Taylor Harbin to first baseman Ryan Wheeler.
  • Chase Wright pops out to shortstop Taylor Harbin in foul territory.
  • Lee Haydel singles on a line drive to center fielder A. J. Pollock.
  • Hainley Statia singles on a ground ball to right fielder Adam Eaton. Lee Haydel to 2nd.
  • Sean Halton doubles (38) on a line drive to left fielder Marc Krauss. Lee Haydel scores. Hainley Statia to 3rd.
  • Zelous Wheeler singles on a line drive to left fielder Marc Krauss. Hainley Statia scores. Sean Halton scores. Zelous Wheeler to 2nd on the throw.
  • With Brock Kjeldgaard batting, passed ball by Ed Easley, Zelous Wheeler to 3rd.
  • Brock Kjeldgaard pops out to second baseman Jacob Elmore.

Final: @Burlington 6, Wisconsin 3

Bees get all they need in the fourth inning
Chris Mehring/Wisconsin Timber Rattlers
BURLINGTON, IA – The Burlington got all of their runs and all of their hits in one inning on Thursday night at Community Field. The offensive outburst was enough to defeat the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 6-3.
Burlington (74-62 overall, 29-36 second half) busted the scoreless game wide open in the fourth inning by scoring six runs on four hits. The frame started with Royce Consigli reaching on an error. A walk to Josh Whitaker followed to put two runners on base for Burlington.
AJ Kirby-Jones cracked the first pitch of his at bat off the top of the wall in left-center for a two-run double for a 2-0 lead. That was the first hit of the game for the Bees off Rattlers starting pitcher Del Howell.

Douglas Landaeta followed with a single that put runners on the corners. Wade Kirkland was next and he cracked an RBI single. John Nester continued the scoring in the inning with another two-run double to put the Bees up 5-0.

Later in the inning, Nester scored on a sacrifice fly by Tyreace House to cap the scoring and give the Bees a 6-0 lead.
Burlington starting pitcher Jonathan Joseph ran into a jam in the sixth inning as the Rattlers (66-70, 28-38) loaded the bases with two outs in the sixth, but a strikeout got him out of the frame.
Joseph would not escape the seventh inning. Brandon Macias doubled and would score on a single by Reggie Keen. Then, Keen made a little history.
The Rattlers centerfielder stole second to record his fortieth steal of the season. Keen is just the fifth Timber Rattlers player in franchise history to steal 40 or more bases in a single season.

The next two batters reached in the frame to load the bases against Joseph again. Max Peterson came out of the bullpen and gave up a sacrifice fly to Nick Shaw that sent Keen home. Peterson would retire the next two batters to keep the score 6-2.
Jason Rogers greeted reliever Sean Murphy with a home run to left-center to lead off the eighth inning. The sixth homer of the year for Rogers cut the lead to 6-3. But, that was as close as the Rattlers would get on the evening.
The loss was the fourth straight for the Rattlers. The current losing streak started when Wisconsin had a four game winning streak snapped on August 29.
The third and final game of the series at Community Field is Friday night at 6:35pm. Pitcher Jimmy Nelson (8-8, 4.30) is scheduled to make his final start of the season for the Timber Rattlers. Blake Hassebrock (7-8, 2.67) is set to start for the Bees. Tune in for the broadcast on AM1280, WNAM or timberrattlers.com starting with the Miller Lite Pregame Show at 6:15pm.

Some cognitive dissonance going on regarding the word "Wisconsin" as I type this while watching the Badgers game. Howell: 6 IP, 4 H, 6 R, 4 ER, 2 BB, 6 K, 9/5 GO/FO. Brian Garman came in and tossed two perfect frames with two Ks. Nick Ramirez had a hit but struck out his other three times up. Shaw drew his 80th and 81st walks.

Final (11 innings): @Iowa 5, Nashville 4

Sounds Lose Extra-Inning Affair To Cubs In Series Finale, 5-4

Peralta Strikes Out Seven In Another Quality Start

Nashville Sounds

DES MOINES, Iowa - Cubs outfielder Brad Snyder hit a game-winning, bases-loaded single off the left field wall with two outs in the bottom of the 11th inning to give the division-rival Iowa Cubs a 5-4 win over the Nashville Sounds in the finale of a four-game series on Thursday night at Principal Park.

Pinch hitter Chris Robinson opened the 11th frame with a single off Mike McClendon and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt and infield groundout. McClendon walked the next two hitters before allowing the game-winning hit to Snyder.

The defeat gave the Sounds (70-70) a series split and 11-5 season series win over the Cubs.

Nashville has played 52 one-run games (24-28), the 3rd-most in the PCL and most in franchise history (51 one-run games in four previous seasons (1985, '87, '90, 2006). The Sounds' 28 one-run losses are most in the circuit.

Twelve of Nashville's 38 road losses have been in walk-off fashion as the club also dropped to 4-10 in extra-inning play.

Right fielder Brandon Boggs had three hits for the second time this season, matching a season-high set on June 9 at Albuquerque. In his first game since joining the Sounds, second baseman Felipe Lopez added two hits, while left fielder Jordan Brown had two hits and two RBIs.

The game was scoreless until the Cubs plated their first run in the bottom of the sixth inning. After Scott Moore hit a two-out single, DJ LeMahieu crushed an RBI triple off the center field wall to score Moore.

Nashville went ahead in the next frame to take a 3-1 lead. Boggs singled and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt and infield groundout. After center fielder Caleb Gindl walked, Brown hit his 28th double of the season up the middle that scored the first two runs. Lopez followed with an RBI single to score Brown.

Iowa stormed back in the bottom of the eighth inning with three runs to take a 4-3 advantage. Moore moved Cubs back within one run by missed a home run by a matter of inches with an RBI double off the top of the left field wall. Two batters later, former Vanderbilt star Ryan Flaherty crushed a two-run, go-ahead homer to right field.

Shortstop Edwin Maysonet led off the ninth inning with a solo home run to deep center to knot the contest at 4-4. The long ball was Maysonet's third of the season. The Sounds would fail to do further damage the rest of the evening on reliever Blake Parker (3-3), who surrendered just the one run in three innings to pick up the win.

Both clubs' starting pitchers tossed quality starts and took home no-decisions.

Sounds starter Wily Peralta finished his 2011 campaign with another quality start. The 22-year-old gave up one run on six hits while striking out seven in six innings of work.

In five Triple-A starts, Peralta went 2-0 with a 2.03 ERA (7er/31.0ip) with 40 strikeouts and only 21 hits allowed in his 31.0 innings, holding PCL opponents to .185 average (17-for-92).

Iowa starting pitcher Austin Bibens-Dirkx posted a quality starter with six shutout innings and four strikeouts. Bibens-Dirkx has now not allowed a run in his last straight three starts (19.0 IP).

In his first appearance since July 14, reliever Tim Dillard gave up three runs on four hits in two innings pitched. Sean Green tossed two shutout innings. McClendon (5-6) lost his third straight outing.

The Sounds continue their season-ending road trip and finish the season with a four-game series with the cross-state rival Memphis Redbirds. Left-hander Sam Narron (6-6, 4.99) will make his final start of the season at 7:05 pm CT at AutoZone Park. The Redbirds will counter with right-hander Michael Blezak (1-0, 1.50).

Final: Billings 7, @Helena 4

Billings jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the visitor's half of the 2nd inning, & then was able to tack on three more single-run innings for the win. After visiting Billings got ahead by four runs, the Brewers got right back in the game:

Helena Bottom of the 2nd
  • Spencer Dickinson remains in the game as the center fielder.
  • Kyle Dhanani singles on a line drive to center fielder Spencer Dickinson.

Guys like Chase Wright and Sean Greene should not be brewers next year. It going to finally nice to see real prospects in 3a next season.
Unfortunately the Brewers don't exactly have a team full of prospects at AA this year that deserve promotions so they will have to fill out their roster somehow. Expect at least a half-dozen or more of those type of players next year.

Some cognitive dissonance going on regarding the word "Wisconsin" as I type this while watching the Badgers game.

Unfortunately, I couldn't watch it last night, but I had to laugh when I checked the score at the end of the first and it was 21-0. Who says college doesn't have a pre-season? :P GO BIG RED!

I'm greedy, I want a Super Bowl, World Series, and a NCAA National Championship this year. I'd thrown in an NBA Championship, but I'm trying to be realistic...
