This is a very important start for Peralta; the last before rosters expand. I'll go out on a limb and say, if he pitches well, so he can have the chance to impress and in turn possibly make the playoff roster, he gets the call up to replace FDLC, and the Brewers ensure that Gomez stays in the minors until September 1st.

Final: Brevard County 6, @Tampa 5

The Sea Cows rapped out 15 hits and survived despite giving up three runs in the bottom of the 9th. Four of those hits came courtesy of Shea Vucinich, and every starter had at least one except the team batting average leader, Scooter Gennett. Baseball is a funny game. Shawn Zarraga had three, including a double, and Kentrail Davis had two, also including a double. Hiram Burgos pitched well, allowing two runs in six innings, and Eric Marzec worked a scoreless frame before Bradley Blanks allowed the three late runs.
Tampa Bottom of the 9th
  • Kyle Roller walks.
  • Rob Segedin singles on a fly ball to right fielder Kentrail Davis. Kyle Roller to 2nd.
  • Neil Medchill walks. Kyle Roller to 3rd. Rob Segedin to 2nd.
  • Cody Johnson grounds into a force out, pitcher Bradley Blanks to catcher Brent Dean. Kyle Roller out at home. Rob Segedin to 3rd. Neil Medchill to 2nd. Cody Johnson to 1st.
  • Kelvin Castro singles on a line drive to center fielder D' Vontrey Richardson. Rob Segedin scores. Neil Medchill scores. Cody Johnson to 3rd.
  • Abraham Almonte strikes out swinging.
  • Pitcher Change: Roque Mercedes replaces Bradley Blanks.
  • Walter Ibarra singles on a ground ball to second baseman Scooter Gennett. Cody Johnson scores. Kelvin Castro to 2nd.
  • Deangelo Mack called out on strikes.

Final: @Jackson 6, Huntsville 1

More of the same for the Stars. With Cody Scarpetta and Kyle Heckathorn on the shelf, they're really struggling, from my perspective, to be interesting at all. Santo Manzanillo did do his part, working a scoreless inning with two strikeouts. Anderson de la Rosa had two of Huntsville's five hits, including a double. Brock Kjeldgaard and Zelous Wheeler each singled and walked. Khris Davis was 0-4.

Final: @Wisconsin 7, Cedar Rapids 2

By Morgan Hawk / Cedar Rapids Kernels

APPLETON, Wisconsin - The Timber Rattlers scored seven runs in the fourth inning to cruise past the Kernels 7-2 on Saturday evening.

The Kernels took a 1-0 lead in the third inning when Jean Almanzar scored from third base on a wild pitch by Wisconsin starter Del Howell.

Wisconsin sent 11 batters to the plate and scored seven runs in the fourth inning, taking a commanding six run lead. Cody Hawn scored on a RBI fielder's choice groundout by Chad Stang, tying the game 1-1. Greg Hopkins doubled to left to score Stang, giving the Timber Rattlers a 2-1 advantage. Reggie Keen's single scored Rafael Neda, pushing Wisconsin's lead to 3-1. Jason Rogers' double off the wall in left brought home Hopkins, Keen and T.J. Mittelstaedt, clearing the bases and extending the Timber Rattlers' lead to 6-1. Rogers then scored on Hawn's double, making the score 7-1.

P.J. Jang (2-6) started and took the loss for the Kernels and went 3.2 innings. He allowed six runs on seven hits while striking out three and walking two. Ty Kelley went 2.1 innings in relief. He allowed one run on five hits while striking out one and walking none. Erik Gregersen went two innings in relief, allowing no runs on two hits while striking out four and walking none.

The Kernels put a run across in the sixth inning, cutting Wisconsin's lead to 7-2. Brandon Decker walked and came home on Marcus Nidiffer's double to deep left center.

Howell (3-8) went six innings for the Timber Rattlers. He allowed two runs on four hits while striking out six and walking three. Greg Holle pitched the final three innings for his 19th save of the season.

The Kernels continue the series at Wisconsin on Sunday afternoon at 1:05 p.m.

Solid outing from Howell, and Holle fanned four in three perfect innings. Mittelstaedt was on three times with two hits, including a double, and a walk. Hawn doubled twice. Rogers, Stang, Neda, and Hopkins all had two hits as well. Carlos Gomez was 0-1 with a walk and a stolen base in his first of four rehab starts.

Big inning lifts Rattlers to victory
Chris Mehring/Wisconsin Timber Rattlers
GRAND CHUTE, WI – The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers scored in just one inning on Saturday night against the Cedar Rapids Kernels at Time Warner Cable Field. But, it was more than enough. Wisconsin scored seven runs in the fourth inning to defeat the Kernels 7-2 in front of a season high crowd of 6,407.
Cedar Rapids (57-74 overall, 25-36 second half) grabbed the lead with a run in the top of the third. They loaded the bases with no outs against Rattlers starting pitcher Del Howell on a walk and two singles. Howell uncorked a wild pitch to let in the first run of the game, but did not allow another run in the frame.
The Timber Rattlers offense, which scored 19 runs on Friday night, went off in the bottom of the fourth. Cody Hawn started the inning with a double. He went to third on a grounder to the right side off the bat of Nick Ramirez. Chad Stang sent a grounder to third that Brian Hernandez made a nice play just to glove. But, Hernandez went home with the throw. Hawn scored the tying run when the low throw was not handled by catcher Marcus Nidiffer.
Rafael Neda was next and he singled to put two runners on base. Greg Hopkins followed with a double to score Stang with the go ahead run.

Reggie Keen kept the hit parade going with an RBI single when he pinch-hit for Carlos Gomez. One out later TJ Mittelstaedt drew a walk to load the bases. That walked knocked Kernels starting pitcher RJ Jang out of the game.

Jason Rogers greeted Kernels reliever Ty Kelly with a towering double off the top of the wall in left field. The double scored all three runners to give the Rattlers (65-66, 27-34) a 6-1 lead. Hawn capped the inning with an RBI double for the 7-1 advantage.

Howell allowed one more run in his six innings of work and left the game with a 7-2 lead. Howell matched his professional high for strikeouts in a game with six and picked up his third win of the season.
Rattlers reliever Greg Holle took over for Howell in the top of the seventh. The tall right-hander pitched three perfect innings with four strikeouts to close out the Kernels for his nineteenth save of the season. Holle has tied a Timber Rattlers franchise record for saves in a season. John Thompson set the mark with 19 saves in the 1995 season.
Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Carlos Gomez went 0-for-1 with a walk, a stolen base, and three putouts center as he played the first game of his four game rehabilitation assignment with the Rattlers on Saturday.
Game two of the series – and of the rehab assignment for Gomez – is on a jam packed Sunday afternoon at Time Warner Cable Field. Jimmy Nelson (7-8, 4.52) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Rattlers. Cedar Rapids has Jairo Diaz (0-1, 5.56) as their scheduled starter. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05pm.
Fans may play catch on the field before the game from 12:00 until 12:30pm and get autographs from their favorite players during a postgame autograph session.
Former Milwaukee Brewers catcher Damian Miller will be on hand to throw out a ceremonial first pitch. Miller will be available for autographs on the third base picnic deck for an hour after the start of the game.

Myron Noodleman makes his return to Time Warner Cable Field and will entertain the fans with his skits and antics.
Sunday is also the final Brewers Sunday of the season. The Timber Rattlers players and coaches will wear the jerseys based on the uniforms of the 1975 Milwaukee Brewers for the final time. After the game there will be a live auction for fans to bid on the jersey they want to take home. Proceeds from the auction will go to Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin.
If you can’t make it out to the game, you can tune in for the broadcast on AM1280, WNAM or timberrattlers.com starting with the Miller Lite Pregame Show at 12:45pm. Sunday’s game is also available on MiLB.TV.

Final: @Nashville 6, Memphis 3

Nashville Sounds

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Nashville Sounds scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to break a late tie and post a 6-3 victory over the division-rival Memphis Redbirds on Saturday evening in front of 8,827 fans at Greer Stadium.

With the score knotted at 3-3, Nashville batted around against Redbirds reliever Jess Todd to register the game-winning three-run outburst.

Eric Farris led off the Sounds' eighth with a single and moved to second on Mat Gamel's opposite-field single through the left side of the infield. With one out, Caleb Gindl ripped a line-drive single to center to plate Farris with the go-ahead run. After an intentional walk was issued to Brandon Boggs to load the bases, pinch-hitter Andy Gonzalez gave the Sounds some breathing room with a two-run single to left that extended the lead to three.

Memphis didn't go down without a fight in the ninth, drawing a pair of walks against Sounds reliever Sean Green to bring the potential tying run to the plate with one out. Don Money summoned Daniel Herrera from the bullpen and the left-hander struck out Pete Kozma before inducing a game-ending, warning-track fly ball to left from pinch-hitter Tony Cruz to secure his second save of the year.

Randy Flores (2-3) worked a scoreless frame of relief for Nashville to earn the win, while Todd (1-4) was saddled with the loss after surrendering three runs in his 1 1/3 innings for Memphis.

The Sounds took a 1-0 lead in the second when Erick Almonte and Gamel led off the frame with back-to-back doubles off Memphis starter Nick Additon.

Memphis responded with a pair of runs in the top of the third inning against Wily Peralta to claim a 2-1 advantage.

The Redbirds loaded the bases with no outs on singles by Shane Robinson and Tyler Greene followed by a walk drawn by Nick Stavinoha. After a strikeout, Peralta issued a five-pitch walk to Matt Carpenter to force home Robinson with the tying run. Andrew Brown put the visitors ahead by floating a bloop RBI single to shallow left-center.

The Nashville right-hander escaped further damage in the frame by striking out Bryan Anderson and Freddie Bynum in succession to leave the bases full of Redbirds.

Peralta allowed two runs on four hits over five innings and took a no-decision in his fourth Triple-A start. Only eight of the 25 batters he faced put the ball in play as he walked a Sounds season-high seven batters, struck out nine, and hit one batter. Peralta threw only 58 of his 106 pitches for strikes on the evening.

Nashville evened the contest again at 2-2 in the bottom of the third. Logan Schafer doubled with one out and scored on Edwin Maysonet's hit-and-run single to left.

Neither team scored again until the seventh when the Redbirds pulled ahead, 3-2, with a run against Sounds reliever Daniel Meadows. Stavinoha led off with a double to left-center, moved to third on a Mark Hamilton singled, and plated the go-ahead run on an Anderson groundout.

The Sounds responded immediately and tied the game in the home half of the frame with an unearned run, making it a 3-3 contest.

After Gindl led off with a double to right to chase Additon from the contest, Boggs dropped a sacrifice bunt up the third-base line. Memphis reliever Pete Parise misfired wide of first to allow Gindl to score and Boggs to advance to second. Boggs moved up to third on a Meadows sacrifice but was tagged out at the plate as he attempted to score on Schafer's safety squeeze bunt attempt.

The Sounds wrap up their 2011 home slate on Sunday evening when they host the Redbirds in the 6:35 p.m. finale of a five-game series. Left-hander Sam Narron (6-6, 4.89) will make the start for Nashville to face Memphis right-hander Brandon Dickson (8-9, 3.73).

Weird line from Peralta. The strikeouts are nice, but the sin of walking seven men in five innings probably outweighs the goodness of fanning nine in those same five frames. On the plus side, it's about as good as you can be when walking seven, so there's that. Martin Maldonado, the only starting position player not mentioned above, was 1-3 with a sac bunt. Taylor Green didn't have a single hit, but he was chewing sunflower seeds in Milwaukee, so we'll forgive him.

Relievers Juan Carlin & Michael Clevinger combined to shut out Helena in the final three innings.

Max Walla went 2-2 with a stolen base; he also made a throwing error. Ben McMahan & Mike Nemeth singles were the only other hits on the day for Helena.

Helena Independent Record with notes on this road game --

Brewers lose sixth consecutive game

Orem pitcher Nick Maronde hurled a three-hitter through six innings, fanning seven batters and sending the Helena Brewers to their sixth straight defeat.

The Owlz won 5-1 Saturday in Orem, Utah, out-hitting the visiting Brewers 10-4.

Maronde improved to 4-0 with the win. Helena starter Kevin Shackelford was tagged with the loss after giving up four runs on seven hits through 3 1/3 innings.

Max Walla was 2 for 2 with a steal to lead the Brewers, who were without an extra-base hit.

Orem second baseman Taylor Lindsey, who was announced Pioneer League MVP earlier in the day, was 2 for 5 with a run scored. The Owlz 1-3 hitters combined for six hits and four runs.

Helena shortstop Yadiel Rivera was named to the Pioneer League All-Star team, the only Helena Brewer to make the squad. Sean Albury, Jacob Barnes, Andy Moye, Max Walla and Parker Berberet were all honorable mention.

Helena wraps up its series with Orem today, looking to avoid the sweep. The Brewers have not won a game on their current road trip.

Final: AZL Dodgers 3, @AZL Brewers 1

Arizona Box Score

The 17-37 Brewers have only two games remaining; when you combine that record with Helena's 25-40 mark, the stateside rookie clubs are a combined 35 games under .500 -- ugh; 19-year-old RH starter Mike Schaub allowed three runs (two earned) in six innings in his 4th start of the season (13th appearance). At minimum, Schaub should escape the desert heat next summer for Helena. Another 19-year-old, Jalen Harris, singled twice and has a .920 OPS in his last ten games. The 6'2", 210 lb. Harris, touted for his athleticism, has seen quite a bit of action at first base, not third, in recent weeks. Hopefully he's not locked in as a first sacker now. Speaking of hot batters, 18-year-old Renaldo Jenkins, playing second base here, singled three times and is hitting .474 in his last ten games (18-for-38, one BB, two XBH's) .

Arizona Play-by-Play

Unique gift the Brewers received for their only run -- otherwise, they were 0-for-4 with RISP and stranded seven overall...

AZL Brewers Bottom of the 2nd

  • Jalen Harris singles on a line drive to right fielder Ronny Lugo.
  • Renaldo Jenkins grounds into double play, shortstop Delvis Morales to second baseman Malcolm Holland to first baseman Tae-Hyeok Nam. Jalen Harris out at 2nd.
  • Jose Garcia hit by pitch.
  • With Ronny Puello batting, Jose Garcia steals (5) 2nd base, Jose Garcia scores. Throwing error by center fielder Devin Shines. Throwing error by catcher Tyler Ogle.
  • Ronny Puello grounds out, third baseman Alex Santana to first baseman Tae-Hyeok Nam.
