HP TouchPad Fire Sale: $99

1992casey

On a slightly related note I bit on yesterday's Woot of the Viewsonig g-tablet for $240. I am starting to regret it because I didn't read the developer's forums thoroughly before purchasing, as from what I can tell the Honeycomb 3.+ platforms have issues with the camera/camera app and the camera is one of the reasons I purchased it.

Does anyone know for sure if the camera or any camera apps work with the Honeycomb 3.+ platforms out there, and if not, what platforms do work (Cyanogenmod, Vegan-tab - but I HATE that name, Brilliant Corners, etc.) well overall and with the camera? I don't "game"; I planned on using the tab for wi-fi internet access when traveling (instead of bringing along the work laptop), and surfing/watching movies/TV while on flights. Thanks!

For $150 I feel guilty using this thing..it's like I stole something.

After the logging fix, this thing is much snappier. WebOS isn't bad at all. I haven't tried overclocking it but hear that it makes it comparable to an iPad in terms of responsiveness.

With all the hype this thing is getting, I'd be stunned if HP didn't bring it back from the dead in some form.

Here's a good Touchpad getting started guide.

Given that HP is getting out of the PC business, I'd be surprised if they decided to get back into the tablet business. Keep in mind that these things didn't sell at all until they were deeply discounted and that the whole tablet thing cost the company a ton of money.

There's a rumor out there that Samsung might be interested in WebOS, though.

From HP's web site: More TouchPads on the Way

Despite announcing an end to manufacturing webOS hardware, we have decided to produce one last run of TouchPads to meet unfulfilled demand. We don’t know exactly when these units will be available or how many we’ll get, and we can’t promise we’ll have enough for everyone. We do know that it will be at least a few weeks before you can purchase.
A long FAQ accompanies the announcement.

They probably had a warehouse of components they would otherwise get pennies on the dollar for.

I was just reading this morning that Futureshop and Best Buy Canada have all the Playbook models on sale right now. 16 GB version is $199.
