Apparently compensation talks are not going well. The Cubs want to give them money, but the Red Sox are only interested in players.

It's Carpenter and a PTBNL apparently. The sides are exchanging players for the future player. Not much really in my opinion.

Wouldn't it be nice if the Cubs could send the Cardinals' best pitcher to the Red Sox :-)

Eh, Carpenter has a power arm that if can harness has some upside. He had success as a starter in the minors but struggled with control out of the pen last year at AAA and briefly in the majors. He's not totally unlike Rogers I suppose without the injury history. It will be interesting to see if the Red Sox keep him in the bullpen.

Wait a second, there is another Chris Carpenter in baseball? I remember the one that was a rated rookie way back in the day, Cris Carpenter. I think that he got a cup of coffee with the Brewers back in the Bando era.
