Mark Rogers will have surgery, suspended 25 games for stimulant use

Do all of you understand that there are over the counter medications you can buy in this country and that if you had them on you in other countries you would be arrested and put in jail. The same holds true coming into this country. There are medications we can take without even thinking about it that the pro athlete can not.I think back a few year to the American cyclist that was stung by a bee and his face swelled up like a grapefruit. He could not take the simple anti venium shot because it contained a band substance. You are all making accusations that are unfounded and based on wild *** guesses.

All of the talk about him being a loser is shameful.

So I should feel shame for calling him a loser--but there's no shame in earning a 25-game suspension for a substance violation? That would make the criticism worse than the violation. Shouldn't I be subject to a 26 game suspension?

People make mistakes. . .

Apparently only athletes who fail tests make mistakes. Those who criticize them are supposed to be ashamed.

No, your criticism is just over the top & overly judgmental. You don't like the guy, fine. But you really spread it on thick, to the point where it was just unnecessary. You have no knowledge of what substance he tested positive for, or any other context. But yeah, go ahead & just lambast the guy... and then play the victim when people point out that you don't really know anything about what you're ranting about.

I never once made any speculation on what substance he tested positive for. I don't know what's on the banned list. He does. He got it in writing, and then again in counseling. If it were something innocuous, his agent would be screaming out loud to have his name cleared. Instead, he made some passing reference to carpal tunnel medication. I don't believe that a team doctor would prescribe medication for players if that medication contained banned substances. Do you believe that?

As for "playing the victim", I think it's hilarious that of the two of us (me and Rogers), more people are getting worked up over my words than they are of his actions.

Getting suspended? No big deal. Calling the suspended guy a loser--that's over the top.

Toby, things on the banned list are okay as long as they have a prescription. But they have to acquire them through proper channels. That's why MLB was looking into the huge surge in Aderroll use in MLB.

Here's the MLB drug policy. I know MiLB tests for a few more things, but

I don't know if any of those are in the stimulant category.

MLB drug policy - wikipedia

As for the drugs on the list, only one has anti-inflammatory properties is famprofazone which metabolizes to methamphetamine. I can't find specific indications for this drug, which is unusual and likely means that it is not prescribed

My speculation is this:

Rodgers used some form of amphetamine derivative stimulant, tested positive once, tried to stop but had some problems with withdraw.

I don't know the details, but if the first positive test only results in counseling, that might not be enough, and the teams / MLB /MiLB need to be more aggressive in treatments to prevent relapse.

I also don't like how his agent tried to tie this to the carpal tunnel issue which seems dubious. The one thing that helped soften opinions here about Jeffress was the way Josh handled it.

One question...so Mark's suspended, but he's on the 40 man roster. Doesn't that mean he's technically serving his suspension right now? If it means he'd miss games next year, then does he get to go on some sort of minor league rehab to build arm strength?

From what I've read and heard yes. He'll knock out 17 games this season and will have 8 more to go next year. My understand is suspended is suspended. No playing period. I'd guess once the time is up he would go to the minors to build up innings. But with no options left and when he has the surgery and recovery all play factors

Am I correct in thinking that Mark can work out and pitch in extended spring training during his suspension?
