Hasn't Hairston Won the 2B Job?

Tbadder
Based on defense, headiness, hustle and concentration I'd say that Felipe Lopez needs to go to the end of the bench with Craig and basically not see the light of day. The Dodgers' game (8/15) really clinches it even though he wasn't playing 2B. Coupled with Felipe not running out grounders, isn't this the obvious choice?

No. I would rather have Lopez at 2B when a lefty is pitching and having Hairston play CF than having Hairston play 2B and Morgan/Kotsay in CF. If Gomez was back then yes Hairston should be playing 2B when a lefty is pitching.

Nyjer Morgan is really bad against LHP. I'll agree with nate here, against a LHP it's best to put Lopez at 2B and bat him somewhere low in the order and stick JHJ in CF. RR seems to be managing this situation pretty well, but I would like to see JHJ at SS a few times just to see what sort of range he has compared to Yuni. Either way, I can't wait for Weeks to come back.

I agree in wanting Hairston out in CF when a lefty is on the mound, but in those games i'd rather have Wilson playing 2nd instead of Lopez. Neither guy can hit, but i trust Wilson more defensively than Lopez. When a righty is on the mound, i agree in preferring Hairston at 2nd over Lopez.

I can see why Doug gave Lopez a shot after Weeks got hurt, but he's not hitting, he's not good defensively, and he doesn't hustle out there. I know it won't happen, but i wish Melvin would just DFA Lopez and call up Green. Lopez serves no purpose on the roster with all three of Counsell, Wilson, and Hairston being able to cover infield spots, but at least Green would provide a better bench bat even if Roenicke would start Green at third vs some righthanders. Plus, if Green was productive, it would allow him to be on the playoff roster, assuming we made the playoffs.

He should be playing 4-5 times a week. In center against lefties, then at second/short the rest of the time. He won't play an inning at short, which is ridiculous.

Hey, i was as down as anyone on the decision by Doug to make Betancourt the Brewers everyday shortstop this year and his defense is poor, but until his hitting slows down, i actually have no problem with Roenicke putting Yuni out there each game. Obviously he won't keep hitting at this ridiculously good clip, but until that time comes where Betancourt crashes back to earth that the plate, i would keep putting his name on the lineup card because his offense is more than covering for his defensive shortcomings.

He's playing great defense, for sure. But he has a .367 ops for the Brewers. Small sample, but its not like he's out there raking. Lopez is not hitting either (nor playing defense) so he is not a better option. You may as well put Counsell out there for his defense or Josh W. for his bat. I'd be ok with the four headed platoon of Felipish Hairsell for now until Weeks gets back.

Betancourt the last week:
.269 .286 .423 .709

When the Hairston should be starting somewhere, as often as he can handle it the rest of the season. Lopez should be DFA'd tomorrow, he brings nothing to the table, aside from getting to 2b late on double plays and amazing laziness.

To me, Hairston is better as a super utility type guy off the bench. I think that you move him around a lot (I'd like to see him at third/short), so he is fresh at all his positions, getting him 3-5 starts a week depending on matchups. He was a very good get. I still think that Lopez can be useful though.
