Dominic James update

Dominic James appears to be the player that made the biggest mistake playing here. His stock is plummeting and it could have a lingering effect on next year as well, should he return to Marquette. James decided to enter the draft when it appeared coach Tom Crean might be leaving for greener pastures. After it became apparent that wasn't happening, James decided to continue to "explore his draft options". Big mistake. James first game in the camp he went scoreless on 0-3 shooting with 0 assists. Even worse than the terrible game, his inability to run a team has been exposed. While he's a bigger talent, the situation draws memories Jason Gardner who entered the draft far too early and never was able to recapture his draft stock.

as an alum noone wants him to succeed more than me, but I knew this was going to happen, and he should of just stayed in school.

there is a date (the 18th ?) that he has to withdraw from the draft. I believe there is 12 days after the camp that he can do individual workouts with various teams before he has to make a decision. I know he has 6 workouts scheduled thus far.

I'm seriously beginning to wonder just how good James really is. He was awful for the second half of last season and he has been terrible in these camps. I think we'll find out for sure this season, if he comes back, that is.

Dominic James has been overrated and I think a lot of people said this from the start. But it's hard to convince a lot of people in Milwaukee of this, for obvious reasons.

But then, I remember him in his Freshman season and what a surprise he was.

He needs at least another year of college. He will not be drafted by anyone this year.

I do wonder what possibly could have made James think entering the draft was a good idea. He's a tiny point guard that can't shoot and was coming off a very poor season.I'm no NBA scout, but it was obvious to even me that James was nowhere near ready for the NBA and it's very questionable if he ever will be.

Or a rational basketball fan.

He really isn't that good. He's undersized and can't shoot. But he doesn't dominate like TJ Ford did in college.

Wisconsin fan or not, he wasn't even initially asked to go to pre-draft workouts. No one thinks he's NBA caliber at this point and it's perfectly fair to ask if he ever will be.

I like him his freshman year and thought he had potential. Some over eager Marquette alum got a little carried away I thought. He needs more seasoning and it's painfully obvious hes making a mistake even trying to play with the big boys right now.

Do they not teach English at Marquette?

thats a very interesting first post. Welcome aboard but I would suggest only writing if you actually have something to say involving the discussion...

that being said, James let the hype go to his head. Before the season, all the talk was how he and that guy from Alabama were the two best point guards and were for sure first rounders. James admitted he wasnt concentrating. If he returns, he'd better learn how to focus. If he can focus and play up to his potential, MU is going to have a good team, considering they only lost 2 players, neither of whom was all that good.

Crean is on Homer's show right now.. he didn't say too much but he feels Dominic didn't perform as well as he thinks he can. He thinks Dominic showed that he can make good decisions while running the offense and answered some other questions about him.

He claimed one of the reasons that Dominic was not on the initial list of invitees to Orlando was that there was word out from the MU coaching staff that James was not "serious" about declaring for the draft. Crean denied that any of the coaches had said anything like that.

James is still committed to the process, at this point it's very unclear what teams think about him, he will be back in school without a clear indication that he will go in the first round.

This has been public knowledge for over a week already.

Luke Winn SI Article - May 30th

***The chatter amongst NBA folks is that James wants to stay in the draft; and according to him, it may not require a first-round guarantee to make it happen. James said he would strongly consider something akin to what former Texas guard Daniel Gibson received last season, which was an assurance from Cleveland that he would not slip past its pick in the second round, and then a guaranteed two-year deal once he was selected in that spot. "I'm just looking for a guarantee, that's all," said James.***
