Yovani Gallardo

13-7, 3.56

Gallardo missed the Cards last week at Miller Park, but will catch them this time. He's just 1-4 with a 4.66 ERA lifetime against St. Louis, but he's done well at new Busch Stadium (2.87 ERA in three starts).

Chris Carpenter

7-8, 3.75

Carpenter looked dominant for four innings the last time he faced Milwaukee, only to be sunk by a frustrating fifth. He bounced back in his next game, though, and he has a 3.11 ERA since mid-May.

Its fine if guys need days off, but does RRR not understand this game basically counts double compared to other games we play? If Braun is a little banged up this is fine (except for the order) but if its just a day off that should be tomorrow.

Why is it so hard to write LF on a spot other than 3 on the batting order?
Managers do this all the time and it bugs me too. Lopez could lead off and Hart should be hitting 3rd.

Edit: still no Holliday for the Cards:

You don't have an Adam Wainwright. Easily the best gentlemen in all of sports. You don't have the amount of real good old American men like the Cardinals do. Holliday, Wainwright, Skip, Berkman those 4 guys are incredible people

The way Braun has looked the last couple days I don't mind that RR is sitting him. He certainly hasn't been his usual self. You could argue the lineup order is messed up but I guess it isn't that big of a deal to me. Hart seems to like batting 3rd and there just aren't that many viable options for the #3 spot. The way things are rolling right now just leaving the lineup the same except subbing Kotsay for Braun seems like an OK idea to me.

Considering they had 2 days off last week, he shouldn't need a day off already. Mini-slump or not. If this is just a day off I have to seriously question it. Give him off tomorrow if you feel he needs a day. He's too good a hitter (even in a slump) to not be playing a game of this magnitude.

Making it worse is that RR has no clue how to make out a lineup. Kotsay third? Most teams wouldn't even want him on the roster, but hey, let's hit him third. Put Hart third today (he was good there too when Braun was out), Morgan leadoff, and Lopez (or who really should be Hairston) in the 2 hole.

Morgan, Hairston, Hart, Prince, Casey, Betancourt, Kotsay, Lucroy, Yo

Maybe it's just me, but that looks way, way better. Or at least put Hairston in left, he's a much better fielder and hitter than Kotsay.

If he's not hurt, you don't sit an elite hitter in one of the biggest games of the season just because he's had three subpar games.

What a clownshoes lineup.

Hairston is better than 4 guys in the lineup and can't crack it. I do not understand.

Lopez is absolutely horrible, and has been for 2 years. I do not understand the fascination with him.

If we get up 2-0 in the NLDS will we rest Braun then also?

Really? He has looked terrible lately. I'm not thrilled with the move, but at least it's not some passive aggressive punishment like back when Macha was manager.

This is the stuff that drives me around the bend. When is the last time that a hitter as bad as Mark Kotsay hit third for anybody, let alone a first place team? Or look at it another way -- how much better is Gallardo with the bat than Kotsay? It would make that much more sense for our pitcher to hit third than to do what we're actually doing.
