Frankly I don't really care how he does; I would do that trade again in a second; Marcum has been a godsend.

I wouldn't http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif

I think we'd still be on top of the division if we replaced Marcum with an average pitcher via trade. Lawrie is a douche, sure, but he's a douche who can crush the ball.

Are you serious? Not as much about the trade but about us being top in the division without Marcum. Marcum and Wolf were the only guys getting quality starts early in the season. Not only that we have Marcum for another year, a chance to lock him up longer, or trade him next year, or get good draft picks for him. Lawrie could be a stud or he could be a solid OF or he could bust.

I go back and forth on this trade. I do think that in the NL a guy like Marcum increases his value and hopefully we can replace Lawrie with a decent offensive guy via FA or trade if needed.

25 years ago, Glenn Braggs was a stud future HOFer as well. Ironically enough, he was putting up huge numbers in the PCL. I'm not saying that he'll be a flop, but this is Lawrie's first really good offensive year in the minors, so perhaps they should wait a few years before they cast his plaque in Cooperstown.

I don't know how any Brewers fan that endured the past few seasons of pitching could even begin to call Marcum anything close to average. He's had a bit of a rough stretch lately, but the guy was flat out dominant earlier this season and overall he has probably been the Brewers best pitcher this season.

Let's not forget either that in his last start vs St. Louis, that five run inning should have never happened if three different times in the inning our defense didn't botch opportunities to get Pujols out.

Dave I agree but I think you're going to see 10 really good starts from Greinke down the stretch. He's lowered his ERA over a run since the Cubs debacle.

If we make the playoffs I would probably make sure Greinke pitches at home, not sure how the pressure would affect him and his anxiety, home crowd would help him alot.

The best trade help both teams. I hope this is one of those.

I think our serious lack of starting pitching made this and the Greinke trade essential if we want to win a championship. And that's the goal.

This year and next should be exciting for the Crew. Even with Prince leaving, I think we can be very good in 2012. Beyond 2012, who knows. So much can happen. Maybe we'll need to rebuild. Maybe not. We'll see.

Every deal is a risk. But not making deals is also a risk as well.

I'm just enjoying winning now. I hope Lawrie and marcum both continue to do well. Same with Lorenzo Cain, Escobar and the others.

Better trade thus far then the KC deal. And I would do both over again.
I am not entirely sure on this one. Odorizzi has struggled since his promotion. His K's are done, he is walking more guys, he is giving up more hits, he has given up more home runs and he is not going deep into games at all. Cain is a solid prospect. Escober is an all field no hit SS and Jeffress has struggled. I still like Odorizzi but the buzz about him has definitely quieted since his jump to AA which is the place where we usually find out how good prospects are.

I do agree that I would do both over. I think they get us to at least one playoff birth and a good chance next year. Hopefully we can extend one or both. If not we can restock the farm with the great picks they will net us

Odorizzi dominated high-A & hasn't had the same success in his first crack at AA as a 21-yo. I don't think he should be or should have been expected to dominate like he did in A-ball at every step of the way. He's still an excellent prospect.

Anthopoulos has done a nice job so far as GM in Toronto. I think a young offensive core of Lawrie & Rasmus is pretty good work. Blending that with bats like Bautista, Lind, & Escobar, & pitching like Romero & some of the young guys on their way to the bigs means that Toronto will have a shot at contending sooner rather than later (imo). And Anthopoulos has shown that he's very willing to move veterans for prospects, so you could probably even see Bautista/Lind/Escobar spun into more youth to really re-tool around Lawrie/Rasmus/Romero/Drabek/etc., if the Jays are fully invested in that wave of players as their main plan.

Not sure what I'm missing on the Kansas City deal. From a distance, it looks like every one of those guys is flopping over there outside of Cain, who will probably be a Darryl Hamilton type.

I was going to reply and say that Escobar seems to have turned the corner and is playing well, but a quick look at his stats show he's got an OBP of .287 and a .619 OPS ... because Escobar has been dazzling in the field and because Yuni B's OBP is .276 I'd still say, though, that Escobar is a better SS than Betancourt (but that ain't sayin much)...

It does look like, so far at least, the Brewers did far better on that trade
