MiLB July Player of the Month - You make the call

Brewer Fanatic Contributor

Wow, July disappeared in a flash! Why can't February go that fast???

DSL:

Pitcher: Jorge L Ortega: Nothing really special this month for pitching. Ortega was efficient with an ERA of 1.80 in 25.0 IP, only giving up 17 hits and 3BB. But also only 16Ks (5.8K/9IP).

Batter: Sthervin Matos: Can I get a pronunciation guide please? Only 6 months older than Arcia, he has burst on the scene at 3B in July (not playing prior), putting up a line of 344/462/484/946. Orlando Arcia was deserving also, but I'm feeling communistic and am spreading the wealth around. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

Arizona:

Pitcher: Stephen Peterson: Hmmm a 23 yo LHRP wins? I'll trust that the higher ceiling guys are "working on something". But Peterson did have a 1.50 ERA and 16K/2BB in 12.0 IP.

Batter: Steve Felix: How hard is it to catch in the AZ heat? Evidently, not that bad. 4 of the top 5 AZ Brewer hitters are catchers. At 23, Steve might be a touch old, but he did put up a line of 321/418/571/989. Garfield also put up similar numbers, but was limited in ABs due to injury. But at least he is more age appropriate for the level.

Helena:

Pitcher: Jacob Andrew Barnes While only compiling 11.2 IP, its his 20K/4BB (and 1.54 ERA) that wins the honors for the 6'2" 230lb 21yo.

Batter: Nicholas Randolph Ramirez: Nick wins a contested battle here. Dishon, Rivera, and Walla all deserve some consideration, especially if you consider age. But Nick starts his MLB career with 369/383/689/1072 (including the end of June) at rookie ball.

Wisconsin:

Pitcher: James Nelson: Nice to see Jimmy round into form (no body shape pun intended). He put up a 32k/13BB in 30.1IP for a 3.56 ERA. Rosario also put up a nice 26K/8BB in 21 IP.

Batter: Thomas J. Mittelstaedt: Second straight for TJ, putting up a line of 323/404/495/898. Cody Hawn was doing well before he got hurt and Joe Paciorek also looked good in limited ABs (being a catcher).

Brevard:

Pitcher: Evan Anundsen: What? On a team with Bucci and Thornburg, how does Evan pull this one out? While both Bucci and Thornburg put up good numbers, their walk rates jumped up. And Evan puts up a nice clean 20K/2BB in 24.1 IP for an ERA of 1.48

Batter:

D' Vontrey Richardson:

Probably not the numbers of Khris Davis, but I can't extract Davis'

July Brevard numbers. But Richardson continues his ascension with July

numbers of 336/374/449/823

Huntsville:

Pitcher: Wily Peralta: No need to look any further than Peralta, as he was dominant this month: 0.66 ERA with 32hits, 38K, and 13BB in 41IP. Merklinger had some nice numbers in 6 starts also.

Batter: Erik Jordan Komatsu: Going away present for Little Pine. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif Erik continued to hit well, but not tearing the cover off the ball: 279/398/430/836. Plus no one else at AA really did anything of note. BK and Kh Davis need to get going soon, or their offense is going to be brutal.

Nashville:

Pitcher: Michael Bruce Fiers: I had him as POM for June in AA. Now in AAA, same result. Limited by a bruised finger, Fiers continues to produce: 2.50 ERA with 17K/9BB (but only 12 hits) in 18IP

Batter: Taylor Green: Beyond the obvious here (FREE GREEN!), Nashville as a whole has been putting up some "holy cow" stats.

Green: 373/496/637/1133

Schafer: 436/522/564/1086

Gindl: 351/417/535/952

Almonte: 329/439/524/963

Gamel: 301/393/452/845 - must have been recovering from his MLB hangover

Overall:

Pitcher:

Peralta - head and shoulders above everyone else

Batter:

Green - Couldn't be anyone else at this point. Schafer was also extremely impressive, but it still couldn't be anyone else! DM are you listening?

Pretty easy this month

Peralta is a clear choic

Taylor Green is the choice as well but Schafer has been very impressive. Both those guys could be having an impact on the big league club next year, although Schafer is a little blocked in CF right now
