2011-08-02 Cardinals (Garcia) at Brewers (Marcum) [Brewers lose, 8-7, 11 innings]

1992casey

To me this is the worst loss of the season.

To be insulted by the Cardinals, to have them show complete lack of class, to continue their crusade to be baseball's biggest hypocrites, and to strand the bases loaded with nobody out and not be able to make them pay, yeah, that stings.

I have an extremely hard time believing that 20% of our losses have been worse.

At least there weren't any managerial mistakes (that cost them) in this one and it was lack of execution from the players. That's going to happen from time to time, especially with this dreadful defense.

There were a few. I didn't think the lineup was right to start the game. I missed the middle innings but reading through it is possible Marcum should have been pulled earlier. At the end there it came down to who was gonna suck less with guys on base.

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

Tomorrow is a new day.

They've got a shot to go out and polish off an 8-1 homestand. Even 7-2 to take over first by a game plus wouldn't be too bad.

Yes, I'm trying to cheer myself up, but it is still early August. Really long way to go. If every game is like this, I'm really not sure I'll make it.

If the situation arises, Pujols needs to take one in the ribs tomorrow.

A loss is a loss, but the thing that incenses me the most about this game is the fact that LaRussa stupidly gives us a free leadoff runner in retalation for something that was completely unintentional, stays in the game even though there was obvious intent, and then we load the bases and CAN'T MAKE THEM PAY. That was embarrassing.

It felt like watching a criminal up on the stand that you knew was guilty, but the prosecution did a poor job and he got off.

Yeah. Would've been a great win (going up 4.5, esp. after their antics today), but as a loss, it's not really devastating me like, say, the A-Ram bomb in '07 or the Giants' sweep that year or even Opening Day this year.

Idiot Mitch Williams on MLB Tonight defending Yadier. Saying it wasn't malicious. No bumps. Just some yelling. Acted as if nothing was wrong with it.
Really think Mitch Williams has something against the Brewers.

Goodness...give the "DPR" thing a rest. It´s not funny. It never was funny. It won´t be funny in the future.

It kind of goes along with the other stuff he posts so I don't mind it. Marcum had a bad game. They needed one run in the last 4 innings and couldn't do it. Sooner or later one of the teams is going to find $#*%#* or a bloop to get a run. Plenty of chances and it just didnt happen. Jackson very hittable tomorrow.

Worst loss of the season. Absolutely dreadful. We could of and should of won. The Cards embarrassed themselves as organization and still get the win, unfreakingreal. I hope somebody takes a dump in La Russa's bed at the Pfhister or wherever they staying tonight. I hate the Cardinals, their players and their fans.

There's probably 8-10 worse losses this year. At least there weren't any managerial mistakes (that cost them) in this one and it was lack of execution from the players. That's going to happen from time to time, especially with this dreadful defense.

Not a badly managed game (I even liked sliding JHJ to 2nd double switch in Morgan), but Corey Hart not bunting in the 8th was a bit questionable.

So hot in the stadium tonight. This game was lost in the 7th inning. Gotta score at least one with the bases loaded and no outs. Odd that the last three losses I've seen have all been Marcum started games. Disappointing to lose on a Texas leaguer. Get 'em tomorrow, boys.

I hope professional baseball players can get over these types of losses faster than fans can. I didn't sleep very well last night and I'm still upset about this one. I mean it's ONE game. Even the best teams in history lose 60-70 games a year, but this one hurts. It feels like a football game when you can go back through the game and come up with a dozen "what ifs" and think about how the outcome could have changed. It's probably a good thing we have a laid back manager. Hopefully he has the guys ready to go tomorrow.

It's only one game, It's only one game, It's only one game, It's only one game, It's only one game, It's only one game, It's only one game...

You don't have an Adam Wainwright. Easily the best gentlemen in all of sports. You don't have the amount of real good old American men like the Cardinals do. Holliday, Wainwright, Skip, Berkman those 4 guys are incredible people

Yes, it was.

Lucky for me, I was sitting in the loge section behind home plate where the roof was leaking and got soaked. That felt great for about 10 minutes and then it was back to sweating.

Sat there for all 4 hours and 28 minutes, fighting to stay hydrated (especially after the 7th!) It will be the game I always remember (helped that I got tickets behind home plate) but MAN, it was uncomfortable in there.

BA and Bill kept commenting on how quiet the crowd was--well, yeah, you guys were sitting in a sauna, apparently.
I commented on that a few times as well. It was like a sauna, indeed.

The only saving grace was that there were blasts of cold air coming from (above?) the press box area every couple of minutes and my seats were directly below the WTMJ booth. And, as I mentioned above, the rain helped cool me for a few minutes.

Props to the "classy" Cardinal fan in the Lou Brock jersey, front row of 218, who kept standing up and double middle-fingering whatever it was he was mad about at the time.

Oh, burniebrewer, we were in 217, just across the aisle from 218, watching people move out of the way of the rain and getting just slightly sprayed ourselves. I wish I'd known you were there; we could have finally met 'for real.'

I noticed the Brock "double salute" dude too. Class. Pure class. His exaggerated ump-mimicking strikeout calls after Brewer strikeouts were almost as classy. I'll admit that most of the red-clad fans around us were lacking in attitude, which was redeeming.

That was such an interesting game. It was crazy hot and humid (though we benefited from the occasional whiffs of press box AC) and I had to get up and walk the concourse a few times out of nervousness. I hate the TLR mindgames as much as anyone, but overall it was quite an entertaining night. Getting home at 1:45 AM has made for a rather unproductive day at the office today, though.

Despite the bloopy GWRBI hit, I was happy with Marco's performance. He recorded some big Ks. I was thinking "ballsy" but that would suggest more of a walk. And the Yunibomb...man. Wouldn't it be insane if he wound up providing the "big play" the Brewers need to put themselves over the top (of the standings or postseason)?

Finally, another weather note: did those of you at the park catch the bizarre sky colors before the roof closed and the rain came? I haven't moved my photos off the camera yet, but I'm hoping they capture the weird rosey-coral hue. There were also strange cloud streaks in the sky. Just another thing to make that game memorable.

Remember: the Brewers never panic like you do.
