Possibility the Brewers are done making moves?

I find it unbelievable that Melvin sees no problem with Yuniesky Betancourt as a full time shortstop the rest of the way. It really is the worst decision he's made in his tenure here, and he's compounding it by not upgrading.

JHJ is a fine shortstop if they actually play him there. Likely a much better SS than CFer.

JH should play 4 games a week.... 3 at short 1 in center......and more in center if there is more leftys on the mound. I think you roll with MCghee at this point and spot start Lopez/Wilson/Counsell and 2nd. It isn't great but it is what we have. MAybe even plug in Counsell Wilson or lopez at short. When weeks get back and that fulltime position is filled then plugging in a few guys for two spots (and really only one because McGhee will be given chances) isn't gonna be that difficult. Also realize Weeks won't be back until September so a roster decision won't need to be made at that time . Same for Gomez. Gomez's return also should mean JH's use in center won't be AS necessary although still a nice option. Barring injury to a big pitcher, Braun Fielder or Hart this team sets up nicely with it's depth. I'm excited. Now for a lefty for the pen in August.

There's a good chance they're done dealing, simply because for whatever reason Ed Wade won't trade Barmes. Makes absolutely no sense to me. He can get a prospect for a one year FA to be in Barmes.

The Astros are on the verge of sending Michael Bourn to the Braves this morning, which does have to make you wonder how Barmes became their "untouchable"?

Not just “at Night” anymore.

Barmes can be a Type B and it sounds like no one is willing to offer similar talent as a supplemental pick. But then again hard to see anyone giving Barmes a contractl that will significantly be more than he makes in arbitration (he's making $3.9m this year so he'd get over $4m in arbitration and I'd guess he's looking at maybe a 2 year/$6m FA contract at the top end).

But it's clear they won't use him there much because they sent down Carroll and because of Melvin's comments. He'll be the Gomez half of the CF platoon, and then roam around the infield the rest of the time.

I'm flat out shocked - this is it Melvin, really!?!?!?

Pirates got better by adding Lee and are hot after Kubel - they'll be tougher than people think and if they can land a pitcher yet....... they aren't going away.

Cards improve by landing Edwin Jackson and now Furcal.

I like Hairston, don't get me wrong, but if this is it....... I'm not sure I like the Brewers chances of making the postseason.

Is getting Jackson and Furcal really any better than getting K-Rod, Hairston, and Lopez? I don't think it is.
I'd gladly take Edwin Jackson alone over that trio for the brewers - he's far more valuable than any of those guys, throw in Furcal............... I don't really even get how anyone could try and say they are on the same level.

We didn't need rotation depth. K-Rod filled a HUGE need for us. The Cardinals still don't have a great bullpen. We have a great rotation AND bullpen now. I'd take Furcal over Lopez and Hairston, but we haven't seen if he'll produce and stay healthy yet. We also payed a lot less of a price for the guys we got. I think Melvin did better.

This is a good point. Aside from waiting to see what we send to the Mets for K-Rod, Melvin gave up very little to improve this team's bullpen and infield depth. I'm pretty satisfied right now.

We don't know what is going back to New York, so you can't really say that. When you look at the whole picture right now, Cardinals added a lot more talent than the Brewers did. Simple as that.

Also, if it turns out Taylor Green was included as PTBNL - then I think Melvin did a lot worse all things considered.

Our starting 3B is still McGehee and our starting SS is still Betancourt.

Nobody should be happy with Melvin's performance at the deadline thus far.

Why? Hairston and Lopez can take starts from Yuni and McGehee if they struggle. At the moment, both are swinging the bat pretty well. That will probably change, which is why we have insurance. What everyday 3B or SS was out there that ended up being traded besides Furcal? No one. And Furcal has his question marks. Not a whole lot more Melvin could do unless Barmes was available, and he clearly isn't.

The Cardinals gave up a ton more talent in Rasmus from the current team.

I just don't agree with this. I think you're really over valuing Jackson, who was clearly more meaningful to the Cards than he would have been to the Brewers

I agree it would be disappointing if Green goes to the Mets, but all indications have been that he probably won't be.

Not if we make a deep playoff run...Green cannot hit lefties at all bro. One would think that a guy with an 82' Avatar would appreciate making the playoffs. Taylor Green is having a nice year in AAA. I doubt very much though he will be a good everyday 3rd basemen.
