Possibility the Brewers are done making moves?

Are there any rumors out there, anywhere?? This has been the quietest I have seen the Brewers at the deadline since they got competative again.
Yeah, this is what makes me think something big is cooking - especially since the rival exec made a comment about how Mark A going for it in regards to the Beltran deal. I have a feeling Mark is opening up the checkbook and telling Melvin to get it done.

At worse, I think we see Furcal by tomorrow with minimal prospects going back and the Brewers eat most of the contract but I've just got a feeling that Melvin/Mark A are working on something big.

Last season was fairly quiet too, but the team wasn't really in contention at that point and we only ended up with Claudio Vargas.

I wouldn't be surprised if something happens, but then again I wouldn't be shocked if Melvin stands pat. Perhaps he's satisfied right now seeing how McGehee and Betancourt have been on hot streaks of late. The team doesn't really need any obvious upgrades in other areas.

Perhaps Carroll still fits that bill? I'm probably being too optimistic.

I'm not going to be that frustrated if the club doesn't upgrade 2B. Felipe Lopez projects to be better than Betancourt for the rest of the season, and he'll probably only start for 4-5 weeks, so I see a SS/3B type as far more important. Really I'm fine with Lopez as a 2B replacement; SS and 3B are still the positions that desperately need an upgrade.

"#Brewers cool on #Dodgers' Furcal, Carroll. Looking for utility IF/OF type. #tradedeadline #MLB"

Who fits this description that is available?
Omar Infante fits the description, not sure if he is still being considered available.
Not just “at Night” anymore.

I'm getting nervous. I want t believe but i keep checking here and mlbtraderumors and find nothing. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif
I've tempered my expectations at this point. I think Melvin might make one more small move, but it won't be for Furcal or anything like that. Maybe pick up another mediocre-ish veteran utility guy (which would mean Josh Wilson gets DFAed), or something along those lines.

We really need a SS who can play 2B until Weeks comes back. I don't think I can handle having Lopez start the whole time Weeks is gone. Until something gets done about Kotsay, 2B and 3B I am officially in protest of this roster. It is really crappy on the fringes and those 3 things could be addressed easily from within.

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

At this point, I'm guessing the Dodgers are asking too much for Furcal/Carroll, so Melvin made the smart move and got a versatile player in Hairston. If Yuni and McGehee hit the wall, then he can look for help in August. I hope the Cards overpay for Furcal and he ends up sucking. I'd enjoy that. But knowing the Cards luck, he'd play like an all-star for them.

I like Melvin's stance with the Dodgers if they are playing hardball - they are the ones in financial trouble, they'll deal Furcal to the highest bidder before the deadline tomorrow. I actually see them dumping as much as possible before the deadline and I think it's nothing more than posturing right now.

I still expect things for Reyes to get intense pretty quickly.

Reyes? They said he's unavailable a long time ago. There's been no talk about him by anyone. He won't be traded. 0% chance.

At this point I'd say Melvin is likely done. I'm sure he'll keep things open, but after acquiring 2 middle IFers I'd be kind of surprised to see a 3rd. I could see him finding a lefty for the pen as a last bit of tinkering though.

They also said they want to sign him to an extension a month ago..... nothing more than posturing. He's still a FA at the end of the year and they won't hesitate to deal him if someone offers a good enough package.

There's a good chance they're done dealing, simply because for whatever reason Ed Wade won't trade Barmes. Makes absolutely no sense to me. He can get a prospect for a one year FA to be in Barmes. Plus the Brewers would happily give them Yuni and pay his salary + buyout (which the Royals are technically paying). Not like it would matter for them, their season is already over and Yuni fits in well in that type of team. Maybe things change before the deadline tomorrow, but I doubt it. Unfortunate for the Brewers because I doubt Hairston can play significant time at SS when Yuni stops hitting so "hot" (which apparently has a different meaning for him as opposed to other hitters) then they will be screwed at SS.

They already said they won't trade him, because they know there will be an uproar from their fan base and they won't sell tickets. Not happening.

Huh? Their attendance is already down - way down actually. Down 8,000 fans per game from 2 seasons ago. Most of their fanbase expected them to sell off Reyes, Beltran and K-Rod, in fact I'd say most are surprised they are keeping him and now the deadline is here without the extension that they said they wanted to do.

Agree to disagree - but I have zero doubt that if a someone came knocking with a blockbuster package, they'd deliver Reyes gift wrapped. They are sitting on the best SS in the league that could put a contending team in the world series though and he'll also give you comp picks at the end of the season - so he wouldn't come cheaply. They'd also save roughly $5 million by trading him - for a team in financial trouble, it helps.

It's really just a matter if someone is willing to give up a top prospect - if the redbirds would have called up and offered up Shelby Miller for example, I'm sure they'd of got a deal done.

I find it unbelievable that Melvin sees no problem with Yuniesky Betancourt as a full time shortstop the rest of the way. It really is the worst decision he's made in his tenure here, and he's compounding it by not upgrading.

I think Melvin is done making moves. All's quiet on the trade front. I'm guessing he's pretty satisfied after the Hairston trade, which means we are stuck with Betancourt and McGehee. Their recent "hot streaks" probably convinced Melvin to not try and replace them.
