Possibility the Brewers are done making moves?

Doug Melvin indicated in a recent interview that the team addressed their "biggest need area" in the acquisition of K-Rod. Is it possible that Melvin is done making moves, and ready to ride out the rest of the year with the current infield? Would you rather Melvin take a hard line since teams are obviously asking too much, or give up Gamel, Peralta, Thornburg etc for rentals like Carroll/Furcal to go all in this season? I'm torn to be honest. Obviously it's in the long term best interests of the team to keep their best prospects, and ride out the season....but part of me wants to be short sighted and trade the farm for as much talent as they can get.....

I don't think Melvin is done trying to make moves, but it's completely possible that nothing else will happen. It really just depends on what the potential trade partners want and what they are being offered by other teams.

I'm pretty sure Melvin is still working on finding us some middle infield help. Call it what you want (a hunch), but I'll be VERY surprised if we're done at this point.

As Brewer fans, we've all been accustomed to thinking long term, but I want to go the short term route now. We all remember the 2008 season as one of the great seasons in Brewer history....we only won ONE playoff game. How much more memorable will it be if we're in the NLCS or even the WS? We might sacrifice a couple of competitive seasons for it, but then again, it wouldn't be the first time we saw futility.

No way they are done making moves. Teams like the dodgers knew we needed infield help to begin with, and now that they see we are desperate for it with weeks out they're driving up the asking price. As the deadline gets closer, hopefully someone blinks and the team can pick up some infield help

If this is it, it's a colossal mistake and a huge waste of talent. A suddenly dominant bullpen, a rotation rounding into form and 2 of the 5 best hitters in baseball surrounded by a handful of some of the worst.

And oh yeah, those hitters who rank among the worst in baseball just so happen to be horrid defensively which in turn lessens the effectiveness of the talented pitching staff. It's akin to hand painting a Bugatti with house paint.

Upgrading the offense and defense all at once can be done simply by acquiring average, readily available major league talent.

If nothing is done to improve the left side of the infield and the Brewers go on to miss the playoffs because of it, it's a giant, permanent, and unforgivable black stain on the resume of Doug Melvin.

I don't think that Melvin is done. Things might not play out until Sunday though. The mostly likely scenario is that teams are asking too much for infield help, because they know we need it. The price will do down by Sunday when they have no other offers on the table and are desperate.

I think we see a big move late this evening that will surprise all of us.

That would be great! I could get behind something like Beckham and Rios for Gamel and someone else or a bunch of stuff for Hanley Ramirez....yeah, I'm totally dreaming on the Hanley idea, but gosh, wouldn't he look great in the number 5 spot? MUCH better than McGehee!

What's holding things up right now on the Furcal/Carroll thing is Furcal's health reports as the Brewers are still looking into that and the other teams that are interested in Carroll also. Once a couple of bigger trades go down like Pence to the Braves/Phillies, I hope he goes to the Braves, gets done we should start to see some more movement. Furcal may also be a waiver wire type of a trade. I believe the Brewers will either get Furcal, Carroll, or Barmes who they are most recently interested in. The Brewers will get one of those players and maybe one other later probably Furcal.

This makes it sound like Melvin has decided that Lopez is the best option at 2B. Doesn't mean he won't acquire another IF though by the end of the day Sunday

I think it's a smoke screen. He's basically saying, "We're still looking, but we're not going to get gouged just to upgrade our infield with a non-superstar type player."

Now I won't be surprised.
Oh you will, cause it's gonna be right when you say "man, that guy on the interwebs was wrong" - then BAM!

So you're saying Gamel is going to the Sox?

Do you have inside info? I am hoping this is the case, that they still are looking. It does seem like Pence will set the market, which scares me from a Brewer front. They don't have a whole lot to give up and if they give up what they've got, they have to win the next couple of years, because there won't be much!!

Pence is just the last major piece to fall in the trade market. I really wish Atlanta would have gotten Pence over Philadelphia. Just speculation on my part but I believe the Brewers get Furcal at some point in this season. I hope it happens this weekend rather than later.
