Season Ticket Luncheon

bensheeps

We've decided to finally try one of these and have tickets for the August 2nd luncheon. Gallardo, Roenicke, and Provus supposed to be in attendance.

I know they say "Due to time constraints, autographs will not be allowed during the luncheon sessions.", but can anyone give me an idea of what to expect from the luncheon?

You sit at your table and are fed. The honored guests (ballplayers) will eventually sit at the front of the .300 club with their back to the field. Try to get there before your tablemates and sit at the end of the table closest to them. We got there last and sat in the seats furthest from the ledge. We could not see the main table. Near the end of the meal, Provus will "introduce" (we are all season ticket holders and know who they are) the players and ask some softball questions. Then it becomes an open Q&A session.

Bold assumption. There are people on this board who still misspell Nyjer, and it's been 4+ months.

Really? Nyjer is not a common name, and Yo is one of the faces of the franchise.

I'll be trying this out on Tuesday, too. I'm looking forward to it. Hopefully it will be a good time.

Not spelling his name (one of his names) is not the same as not knowing that he plays center field, shows a lot of hustle, and has been the key to some rallies and wins this year. That is the kind of introduction he will get.

Let us know how it goes. At the last one Lucroy got some slack for saying his favorite road city is Chicago. Plush saved him by saying he loves playing at Wrigley since he always seems to hit well against the Cubs and loves beating them.

I'm a "hardcore" season ticket holder, so I don't know what the lowest level is. They send out invites using e-mail, so they need to have your address for you to get it.

I'm pretty sure the invites go out to 20 pack and up individuals.

The luncheon was a good time. RR and Yo were there, along with Cory Provus. RR did most of the talking. Some interesting tidbits:

-First question out of the box from a fan was about plushdamentals and if they're trying to spread them throughout the team. RR's response was "I'm really excited about these plushdamentals."

-RR was asked about how he keeps players fresh and ready, discussed how Kotsay's start Sunday was to keep him fresh, then his AB Monday night was one Kotsay kind of gave him a look like "I need an AB" so RR gave him one. RR said "We need Mark Kotsay."

-When speaking about production, RR said "As coaches we get emotional and attached to players, while in the front office they're just looking at numbers."

-Yo talked about his 9 career home runs, and how he has to remind Greinke of this every once in a while when Zack boasts about his batting prowess. Someone asked Yo what he didn't like about Yost or Macha's management style, to which he responded ".... 9 home runs!" and everyone laughed.

-Injury updates: Rickie still has significant swelling in his ankle and just came off crutches Tuesday. "He's a long ways away." Carlos Gomez is making progress and has been with the team. They try to keep an eye on him to make sure he doesn't high five or chest bump too much.

-Of course, RR was asked about Taylor Green. He chuckled and said "We've talked about Taylor Green." He then went into his speech about Mat Gamel and how Mat put too much pressure on himself when he came up. The organization doesn't feel Taylor would be able to replace Weeks offensively at 2B, but no one really can.

-RR talked about the contact play and how it is "my fault" when the runner makes an out at the plate, because the runner is told to just go on contact and not look for where the ball is. RR and the staff feel over the course of a season putting pressure on the defense will lead to more runs. RR said he tried lots of different things while managing in the minors to figure out what he feels works and what doesn't.

They raffled off a few signed balls from Yo and RR at the end as well. I'd definitely go again next year. Sadly, I didn't get to ask Yo about which barbershop to go to if one wanted a Yohawk, but Cory did mention the Yohawk.

Taking this thread on a slight tangent...we got a call from our ticket rep last week saying that we were selected to attend a Rollie Fingers Season Seat Holder reception on Wednesday 8/10 (i.e. tomorrow). Apparently season ticket customers who filled out an online survey earlier this summer were eligible for the opportunity. We completed the survey without noticing there was a possible perk for it, but after years of getting the shaft on fan appreciation night, the Kohls Family Section Family of the Game, the state fair tickets, and much more, we'll gratefully accept this.

Fortunately, August is a "down time" for both my work and the S.O.'s, so we quickly arranged for a day off and will have lunch in the club tomorrow, meet and receive a signed ball from Rollie, and can participate in a Q and A session.

I'm just wondering if any other BF.net folks (who are season ticket customers and filled out this survey) were invited to this thing. I'd look for a familiar face or screen name if you were. Now if I could only think of a question for Rollie - because I really can't think of anything new to ask about 1982, and I am not going to bring up his taxes.
