After Felipe Lopez, we still need 2 IF's

I know I'm not the first person to think or say this, but I really hope that they make a move for both Carroll AND Barmes... or at least get 2 IF's this week.

It would work out perfectly to have one of them playing 2B while Weeks is gone and the other one playing either SS or 3B... and then have both of them playing 3B and SS after Weeks returns. If Furcal is involved you need 2 more IF's just because of how injury prone he is.

I hope they can make it happen... it seems like they could if they really wanted to.

Furcal would be enough. There are internal options to fill third base. I still like the idea of Ty Wigginton though. He'd provide a decent bat on the bench, and is signed for next year. He could shift over to first and platoon with Gamel next season.

I don't trust that Furcal would actually stay healthy throughout the rest of the season, but if Taylor Green would actually be considered to play 2B or 3B, I agree we would only need one more IF... I just don't have any faith that they're going to bring him up before September at this point.

They might as well get Furcal, Carroll, and Barmes, then add Ryan just for additional depth.

I realize you're (probably) joking, but adding two IF's is completely doable. You DFA Wilson and then Betancourt. I doubt Lopez will come up to the majors before September UNLESS we can't get the guy we really want this week.

How do Wilson and Betancourt get DFA'ed and somehow Counsell sneaks through?

If we acquire a competent SS, there will be little need for Counsell as a defensive sub in the late innings. And he certainly has no value as a pinch-hitter anymore, so why even waste the roster spot?

That would be significantly better than doing nothing.

They won't DFA the SS with the highest BA in the NL over the last month and a .974 OPS since the break. Melvin traded for Betancourt. Do you honestly think he'd DFA him now? I don't see it.

They may pick up another IF if they can get one cheap, but it's no certainty that he'd even take over the starting SS job as long as Yuni is hitting. Counsell is hanging by a thread.

I couldn't care less about Betancourt's offense since the break. His defense at short is the worst in baseball and it's killing the team. They absolutely need an upgrade.

Killing the team?

They look pretty alive to me. They are 10-6 since the break, back in 1st place, and Betancourt's offense has been a factor.
