Summerfest

statman0007
I to am totally pumped for Chevelle on the 6th, that is my Birthday. Also Social D and the Silversun Pickups will be amazing. Not sure about the rock stage. This year it does not have a radio partner. OF course it used to be partnered with Lazer 103 and last year The Hog but now they are sponsors for the Classic Rock Stage.

so the hog is doing a classic rock stage on the south end of the grounds this year to replace the rock stage. This sucks (even though that what it basically was last year). Guess I am hanging out at the connection stage this year.

Lineup announced on Monday though

Its just the Mountain Dew Rock Stage with Miller Lite and no radio sponsor.

So, is this the "Zippo" rock stage with WJJO as a sponsor?

I must be getting older.

I've had a theroy about the "Summerfest Inverse Bell Curve of Interest". Essentially what it means is Summerfest is interesting when you're a teenager and as you get around 30+ until about 40, when all interest in loud events with lots of drunk people significantly drops off.

Teenagers have a place to loiter first and foremost. And Summerfest gets enough bands teenagers are more likely to be in to as well to keep some interest. But really, 12 hours of loitering in the summer with nothing else to do isn't the worst way to blow time when you're 15-19 or so. You don't need money as a diet of frosty's usually gets it done at this time. It's something new, being in a huge social setting like this.

You hit 20, 21 and suddenly Summerfest is the lamest place on Earth. You're a little short on cash (college), have to work more and don't have much interest at all in most of the music, which consists of music for the teenagers or washed up acts from 10-15 years ago riding the summer festival scene. To boot, you generally have many other much cooler, hip places to spend your nights with friends and such.

As you age you generally come into a little more money and suddenly all your favorite bands are washed up groups from 10-15 years ago. Summerfest! Since your social life starts to slow down around 30 or so Summerfest becomes something new, fun and interesting to do in the summer. You get to be a teenager again except now you can drink beer and afford food. You're pretty much a nerd at this point so you and your friends decide to let it all hang out during a night out at Summerfest. It feels new and refreshing.

Now, I definitely don't fit the last category here. But I noticed on the band lineups some of them are a little closer to being interesting for me, with more than a few being something I'd actually watch. I can definitely see the bell curve going from all time lows the last few years (last 5 or 6 really, if not more) to a gradual increase in which hypothesize will reach a climax in the next 5 or 7 years.

Summerfest is for teenagers and 30 somethings.
