Anyone have Cricket wireless?

Hey Wisconsinites, question for ya.

Recently, my cell phone bill went up (again), and I'm really getting raked over the coals. 2 lines. 750 minutes, 250 texts, and data, and we're paying $140 a month now.

There's a Cricket pre-paid wireless like, 2 blocks from my house. Went in and checked it out.

Per line, they charge $45 (about $51 with taxes and stuff) for unlimited talk, text, and browsing, and I don't really see any other catches here. Well, there's one. A few people I know casually have said that they experience a lot of call drops and such, even in areas that should have full coverage.

Now, I have a chance to shave $40 bucks off of my phone bill, but if I can't get consistent service, I'm not all that interested. So I have 2-3 second hand stories from over a year ago that their service isn't the best. Anyone else use it? Any stories, good, bad or otherwise?

I'm absolutely baffled that over 70 people clicked a thread titled "does anyone have Cricket wireless" and nobody replied to the question. I'm just curious what anyone thought a thread titled "Does anyone have Cricket wireless?" was going to be about.

I realize that probably sounds snarky, but I'm actually honestly wondering that.

I clicked because I wanted to see the responses. Like you, I've thought about it, but it sounds too good to be true. I always look at any company that advertises heavily during Judge Joe Brown and Maury with a jaded eye. A cursory Google search found lots of complaints.

I can't speak for anyone else but I clicked on it because I was curious to see what people's opinions of the company were. Every time I'm back in Milwaukee, I'm inundated with their advertising (seriously, when they launched in 2008(I think?), the city seemed totally plastered in ads for them) so I was just wondering if it was a reputable company or not.

I've never had cricket, but my brother did about a year ago for a couple of months. I could rarely get a hold of him unless he was in Milwaukee or very close. I don't know if it's any better or not now, but I don't think it was worth the money unless you spend a majority of your time in Milwaukee.

I can't speak directly to Cricket, but I can tell you that where I live, you're in trouble if you choose anything other than Verizon or AT&T. That would tell me to be skeptical about Cricket's coverage.

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.

Interestingly enough, even though Verizon has a heavy presence in Janesville, I've heard from a multitude of Verizon users that say about the entire western 1/3rd of the city is terrible, and same for Sprint. I guess it's all about where you're at.
