Link Report for Thurs. 7/21 -- Taylor Green: Ballplayer; Also, DSL Box Score is now in

Brewer Fanatic Staff

Final: DSL Dodgers 1, @DSL Brewers 0

DSL Brewers Box Score

Venezuelan RHP Jorge Ortega only turned 18 years old last month, but has shown the ability to work deep into games on occasion, as his numbers indicate; eight innings here, leadoff walk led to a rather cheap earned run in the 3rd and it cost him, since the offense behind him only mustered six baserunners (an Orlando Arcia double, a Yonki Hernandez triple, three walks, and an HBP) -- and none of those six baserunners were on base at the same time; Ortega fanned three, walked two, and garnered 11 ground ball outs; the DSL is never an offensive circuit, but this year's league ineptitude overall is at new lows -- regardless, Brewer coaches are excelling with this group as the peripherals, for the most part, surpass even the limited runs allowed...

DSL Brewers Play-by-Play

U - G - L - Y, it ain't got no alibi, it's ugly...

DSL Brewers Bottom of the 4th

  • Yonki Hernandez triples (5) on a fly ball to center fielder Abinaer Soriano.
  • Raphachel Colatosti grounds out, shortstop Jose Luis Javier to first baseman Jeffry Rojas.
  • Orlando Arcia pops out, pitcher Abdiel Velasquez to first baseman Jeffry Rojas.
  • Deivi Mejia grounds out, third baseman Leo Rodriguez to first baseman Jeffry Rojas.

Orlando Arcia (El Pirata) continues to impress. I love finding guys in the DSL or AZ league and follow them throughout their careers (i.e. The Hurricane).

Great stat line so far for a 16 year old (or an 18 or 19 year old for that matter):

.319/.411/.511

Any idea how Ramirez is on the defensive side? And chance he can play LF or 3B?
Mediocre range, but soft hands/picks it pretty well. Probably not; definitely not*.

*They tried Morris at 3B and LaPorta in LF, so who knows what they'll actually try.

Thanks for the update.

Just remembered that he throws left handed, so 3B is not an option. But still, unless they want Hawn and Ramirez to play defense 100% of the time for development, no one at A-ball is blocking him from 1B/DH with Hawn.

Arcia: .319/.411/.511
