At this point in the season, we make no promises to friends and family (and fans) of the Manatees regarding the actual availability of Brevard opponents' audio. Several of the squads, including St. Lucie, indicate that they webcast (only Daytona actually radio-casts as well to our knowledge).

But are these clubs actually webcasting for weekday games, matinee games, road games, etc.? Unless the team's website actually indicates as such (and a couple do), then we assume all games just in case, and provide you the link. Sorry if you're occasionally disappointed along the way...

The Nashville staff has given us the OK to provide you with the following update --

The Voice of the Sounds, Stu Paul, suffered injuries during an accident after Tuesday night’s game and underwent surgery. Stu will be off the air for an undetermined amount of time.

Now beyond that, we are obviously going to respect Stu's privacy, but we can tell you he is doing OK and his spirits are good -- Mass Haas.

The Sounds will broadcast tonight’s game on radio in the Nashville market with Iowa Cubs broadcaster Randy Wehofer filling in on the call.

When the Sounds return to Nashville Friday, Kevin Ingram (who hosts the morning show on the Sounds' flagship station) will take over on play-by-play duties for the four-game homestand.

Beyond that, the Nashville staff is trying to finalize broadcast plans for the next road trip and the rest of the season.

Stu would like to get back on the air for home games at some point this season.

***

All of us here at Brewerfan, and I'm sure you readers, certainly echo that sentiment. Those of you who have listened to Stu's game calls or enjoyed his pre-game audio interviews and highlights archived here, are aware of Stu's professionalism, but even moreso, his enthusiasm and passion for the game.

So as Stu himself would say:

"Here's to "Mr." Stu Paul feeling better and getting back behind the mike ASAP."

Final: @Lansing 5, Wisconsin 4

Chris Mehring/Wisconsin Timber Rattlers
LANSING, MI – The Lansing Lugnuts charged out to a 5-1 lead on Wednesday night against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers at Cooley Law School Stadium. Wisconsin charged back to get close, but the Lugnuts held on for a 5-4 win.
The Lugnuts (55-38 overall, 17-9 second half) scored first. Oliver Dominguez singled in a run with one out in the second inning. In the third, Jake Marisnick high chopper to the mound was enough to get Michael Crouse home from third for a 2-0 lead.

Wisconsin (48-48, 10-16) took advantage of a pair of errors in the top of the fourth inning to get on the board. Greg Hopkins reached on an error with one out. Then, he tried for third on a single to center by Chad Stang. The throw had Hopkins at third, but he made a great slide to avoid the tag of third baseman Bryson Namba.

There were still runners at the corners with two outs when Tony Pechek’s grounder towards right was flagged down by second baseman Dominguez. But, Dominguez threw wildly to first allowing Pechek to reach and Hopkins to score to cut the deficit to 2-1.

But, the Lugnuts padded their lead with three runs in the bottom of the fourth off Wisconsin starter Maverick Lasker. The first two batters reached on a single and a walk. Jack Murphy cashed in both runners with a double. Murphy would score on a two-out single by Crouse.

Wisconsin chipped away with a pair of runs in the sixth and one more in the eighth. In the sixth, Stang tripled to drive in a run. Mike Brownstein’s grounder to first was misplayed and Stang scored to make it 5-4.

In the eighth, Stang tripled – for his fourth hit of the night. This time, a misplay by the third baseman on a grounder off the bat of Brownstein let Stang in to cut the Lugnuts run to one.

Wisconsin tried to put together a two out rally in the ninth. Jason Rogers drew a two out walk and Hopkins followed with a single. But, Stang struck out to end the game.
The final game of the three game series is Friday night. Jimmy Nelson (4-7, 4.36) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. The Lugnuts send Egan Smith (4-3, 3.71) to the mound. Game time is 6:05pm. Tune in for the broadcast on AM1280, WNAM or timberrattlers.com starting with the Miller Lite Pregame Show at 5:45pm.

Well, Lasker's pretty much fallen off the map this year; he had four wild pitches today. Brian Garman and Eric Marzec showcased their strikeout stuff, Garman fanning three in two innings and Marzec two in one. How about Stang with two triples? Who was the last Brewers farmhand to do that? Figures he'd make his only out of the game with the tying run in scoring position and two outs in the 9th inning. TJ Mittelstaedt had a rough night, 0-5 with three whiffs. No Cody Hawn today.

Final: St. Lucie 14, @Brevard County 3

Ouch. Nine runs charged to Hiram Burgos's ledger. Skyler Crawford was the only Sea Cow hurler to emerge unscathed, tossing 2.1 scoreless innings in his BC debut. Kentrail Davis was only 1-4 but stole three bases to give him an even 30 on the year. Khris Davis walked twice, and D'Vontrey Richardson contributed a walk and a sac fly. Each of the four different BC pitchers hit a batter. Kind of surprised Rolando Pascual hit only one, but they don't list "pitches behind batter" in the box score.
Nah.

Final: Chattanooga 4, @Huntsville 3

A fine start by Kyle Heckathorn: 7 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 5 K, 1 HR, 8/5 GO/AO. He needed just 79 pitches to go those seven innings, 54 of them strikes. A run in the 9th off Jesus Sanchez broke the three-all tie and decided the game. Lee Haydel had two hits and stole his 12th base. I was dimly away the Haydel had been scuffling, but I had no idea of the severity: he was hitting .143/.192/.143 in July entering tonight, which has turned what looked like a breakout season into a mirror image of last year's. Logan Schafer tripled once in five trips; he's been the opposite of Haydel in July, hitting a fine .328/.431/.410. Tonight's three-bagger aside, would be nice if one of Haydel, Schafer, or Erik Komatsu would stumble onto some power. Komo walked twice tonight.
Hecakthorn's unearned runs were legitimately so:

Chattanooga Top of the 5th
  • Travis Denker grounds out, third baseman Zelous Wheeler to first baseman Steffan Wilson.
  • Jaime Pedroza reaches on fielding error by right fielder Erik Komatsu. Jaime Pedroza to 2nd.
  • Gorman Erickson homers (4) on a fly ball to right field. Jaime Pedroza scores.
  • Chris Withrow grounds out, shortstop Hainley Statia to first baseman Steffan Wilson.
  • Alfredo Silverio reaches on fielding error by third baseman Zelous Wheeler.
  • Elian Herrera doubles (13) on a line drive to center fielder Logan Schafer. Alfredo Silverio scores. Elian Herrera out at 3rd, center fielder Logan Schafer to shortstop Hainley Statia to third baseman Zelous Wheeler.

Final: Nashville 8, @Iowa 7

Taylor Green is good at baseball. On four out of five times, including his 14th homer of the year, but Ron Roenicke thinks because Mat Gamel hit poorly in a tiny sample of chances that Green doesn't deserve a shot. Whatever. In this case, I think the grass is actually Greener on the other side. Jordan Brown had three hits, including two doubles. mat Gamel went hitless and committed another throwing error at third base. Doubtless that will be held against Green as well. Sam Narron pitched into the 7th but gave up an impressive 12 hits and six runs; thankfully, the I-Cubs' pitchers were worse. Mike McClendon picked up the save despite allowed an unearned run in the 9th.

Helena Box Score

The Chukars took an 8-0 lead into the 4th inning, & never looked back. 2011 third rounder Drew Gagnon, in his second professional start, was beaten up & chased after just 1.2 IP. His piggyback partner Tyler Cravy didn't fare a whole lot better, allowing four ER in 6 IP. Sean Albury was perfect over the final 1.1 innings.

Yadiel Rivera was officially cooled off, going 0-4. Nick Ramirez homered again, a two-run shot in the 4th; he also singled & finished 2-4 with two RBI. Kyle Dhanani, catcher Tyler Roberts, & centerfielder John Dishon were the only other Helena batters to record hits; all three players singled once. Roberts was the only other Brewers player to record an RBI. Parker Berberet walked once.

Helena Play-by-Play

To build off of Toby's comment on Ramirez, here are his two hits:

Helena Bottom of the 4th
  • Yadiel Rivera strikes out swinging.
  • Kyle Dhanani singles on a ground ball to right fielder Runey Davis.
  • Nick Ramirez homers (8) on a line drive to center field. Kyle Dhanani scores.
  • Parker Berberet grounds out, third baseman Mark Threlkeld to first baseman Richard Espy.
  • Tyler Roberts lines out to left fielder Chris Elder.

Helena Bottom of the 6th
  • Yadiel Rivera strikes out swinging.
  • Kyle Dhanani flies out to center fielder Tyler Chism.
  • Dropped foul pop error by catcher Edul Escobar.
  • Nick Ramirez singles on a line drive to center fielder Tyler Chism.
  • Parker Berberet walks. Nick Ramirez to 2nd.
  • Tyler
Roberts singles on a line drive to center fielder Tyler Chism. Nick
Ramirez scores. Parker Berberet out at 3rd, center fielder Tyler Chism
to third baseman Mark Threlkeld to shortstop Adrian Martinez to third
    baseman Mark Threlkeld.

Promote him already.

How about Chad Stang with two triples? Who was the last Brewers farmhand to do that?

My very unscientific research indicates that Lee Haydel had a two-triple game last August. Fittingly, the game write-up highlights the stud of this very thread as well, as Taylor Green was 5-for-5 in the same game.

Manatees pounded by Mets

'Tees handed worst loss of season

By Frank Longobardo / Brevard County Manatees

VIERA, Fla. -- Coming home from a 4-4 road trip, the Brevard County Manatees were handed their worst loss of the season on Thursday night as they were pounded by the St. Lucie Mets 14-3 at Space Coast Stadium.

Manatees starting pitcher Hiram Burgos allowed nine runs - eight earned - over 4 2/3 innings of work. He gave up seven hits, walked three and hit one batter.

After falling behind 8-0 in the fourth, the 'Tees finally scratched a run across in the bottom of the inning. Kentrail Davis led off the inning with a single and then stole both second and third base. He would then score on a Hunter Morris groundout.

Down 9-1 in the sixth, Brevard County would plate its last two runs of the evening in the bottom of the frame as D'Vontrey Richardson drove in Kentrail Davis on a sacrifice fly and Shea Vucinich plated Khris Davis with an RBI single.

After Skyler Crawford relieved Burgos and threw 2 1/3 scoreless innings, Rolando Pascual took the mound and allowed three runs in the eighth, with two of the runs being unearned due to a Juan Sanchez error at third.

Efrain Nieves pitched the ninth and struck out the side, but allowed two solo homers.

The 'Tees committed four errors in the loss and went 1-for-7 at the plate with runners in scoring position.

With three stolen bases on the night, Kentrail Davis reached 30 total for the season.

Brevard County will host St. Lucie again on Friday at 7:05 PM (6:05 Central), before going on the road to face the Mets two more times.

Sounds Sweep Division-Rival Cubs With 8-7 Victory

Almonte's Eighth Inning Blast Powers Sounds To Win

Nashville Sounds

DES MOINES, Iowa - Erick Almonte's two-run blast in the top of the eighth inning gave the Nashville Sounds an 8-7 victory and four-game series sweep of the division rival Iowa Cubs on Thursday night at Principal Park.

Taylor Green reached base earlier in the frame on a fielding error, followed by Almonte hitting his fifth home run to left field off Iowa reliever John Gaub (3-2).

The sweep was Nashville's (47-52) second of the season after taking four straight from New Orleans from June 25-28 at Greer Stadium. Winners of a season-best six consecutive contests, the Sounds have played in a PCL-high 44 one-run games this season, going 20-24 in those contests.

Extending his hitting streak to a season-high ten contests, outfielder Jordan Brown went 3-for-5 with two doubles and two RBIs. Brown is hitting safely in 11 of his last 12 games at a .429 clip (18-for-42) and has driven in a run in seven of his last eight contests.

Green (2-for-3) gave Nashville a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. After Brown doubled to center field, Green hammered the first pitch he saw from Iowa starter Casey Coleman over the right field wall. The long ball was Green's 14th of the season.

Cubs shortstop Marwin Gonzalez broke out of an 0-for-17 slump and hit his first Triple-A home run in the bottom of the third to bring the Cubs within one, a solo shot on the first pitch from Narron.

Both clubs exploded for four runs with two outs in the fourth inning, each receiving help from their starting pitcher's bat.

Nashville's damage was started by catcher Mike Rivera, who doubled to center and moved to third on a Caleb Gindl groundout. The Cubs then chose to pitch around Brandon Boggs to face Narron, who helped his own cause with an RBI single up the middle. Eric Farris then looped an RBI base hit to center to score Boggs, followed by a two-run double by Brown.

Iowa brought the club back within one run at 6-5 thanks to five hits in the inning, including two triples. Gonzalez added to his RBI total with a two-run single to right field, followed by a two-run triple from pitcher Coleman. The three-bagger was Coleman's first of his career.

The Cubs were able to get to Narron and knot the contest at 6-6 in the bottom of the seventh inning. D.J. LeMahieu lined a one-out double to right and scored as Tyler Colvin singled to right.

Almonte's two-run homer in the eighth off Gaub gave Nashville the 8-6 advantage.

Mike McClendon had to work for his third save of the season. Third baseman Mat Gamel made a fielding error to allow the leadoff hitter reach, followed by two straight singles to trim the Nashville lead to 8-7. Outfielder Lou Montanez then hit a grounder to Almonte at first, who threw behind McClendon trying to cover the bag. As the ball got away towards home, Iowa catcher Welington Castillo attempted to tie the game and score from third, but was tagged out while sliding into home by Gamel on a controversial call that got Iowa Manager Bill Dancy ejected.

Narron matched a season-high 12 hits allowed for six runs in 6 2/3 innings of work in a no-decision. The start was Narron's sixth straight of six innings or more.

Zack Segovia (4-3) and Daniel Herrera each tossed 2/3 of a scoreless inning in relief.

Coleman gave up six runs on eight hits while fanning five in seven innings.

The Sounds and Cubs travel back to Music City to begin a new four-game series at 7:05 PM CT at Greer Stadium on Friday night, the fifth of eight consecutive games. Right-hander Amaury Rivas (6-9, 4.71) takes the hill for Nashville against former Sounds and Brewers' hurler Dave Bush (0-0, 3.86).

Brewers return home, but lose to Idaho Falls

Helena Independent Record

The Idaho Falls Chukars jumped out to an 8-0 lead over the Helena Brewers Thursday, and went on to post an 8-3 Pioneer League victory at Kindrick Legion Field.

The Chukars scored all their runs in first three innings — tallying three in the first, one in the second and four in the third.

Left fielder Chris Elder led Idaho Falls at the plate, going 3 for 4 with two doubles and two RBIs.

Visiting pitcher, lefty Brennan Martin (2-2) started and went five innings, allowing five hits and three runs, while striking out six. Idaho Falls pitcher William Avinazar entered the game in the seventh inning and he was replaced by Edwin Carl. The relievers combined for five strikeouts and didn’t allow a hit.

Mark Threlkeld (double), Edul Escobar and Runey Davis had two hits apiece for Idaho Falls. Leadoff man Tyler Chism was hitless, but reached base three times and scored three runs.

The Brewers scored two in the fourth on a two-run home run by first baseman Nick Ramirez over the fence in center field after Kyle Dhanani singled. It was Ramirez’s eight home run this season and his 27th and 28th RBIs.

The hosts added a run in the sixth when Ramirez singled, advanced to second on a walk to Parker Berberet, and scored on Tyler Roberts’ RBI single.

The Brewers used three pitchers: Drew Gagnon, Tyler Cravy and Sean Albury. Gagnon (0-1) started and gave up four runs in 1 2/3 innings. Albury successfully stranded three of Cravy's baserunners in the 8th.

July hasn’t been kind to the Brewers, who returned Thursday from a seven-game road trip. Helena opened the season 7-4 in June, but is 7-12 in July for an overall record of 14-16 — last in the Pioneer League’s North Division.

Idaho Falls, which the Brewers beat twice in a three-game series last week, improved to 13-17 and is third in the South Division.

The four-game series resumes at 7:05 PM tonight (8:05 Central) at Kindrick Legion Field.

It's to the point where the Brewers need to get Nick Ramirez on an A-ball roster. They can find the room.

I would think that now that Chris Dennis is back at A+, they could swap Hawn and Ramirez back and forth between 1B and DH. I know Hawn isn't a world-beater at 1B defensively (at least from his draft report).

Any idea how Ramirez is on the defensive side? And chance he can play LF or 3B?

Also, anyone know what his right bicep tattoo says?
