Might Donate My Car

InsomniacInkRoss

I am looking to most likely donate my car to somewhere

it is my understanding I will get some sort of tax credit/break

Has anyone done this before?

So, who can recommend a place, a know there is a few, and they must come and tow the pile away

Unless one of you wants a 89 Prelude Si that isn't starting right now...

You get what they sell the fixed up car for. You used to get fair market value of the car in near perfect condition.

I also donated to Rawhide in '02...though I'm not they will take your car. They like cars that are 10 years old or less, as they use them to teach kids how to fix current vehicles.

I donated my 1998 Pontiac Grand Am to the Rawhide Ranch last summer. We were able to use this for a tax deduction. Our deduction was $2,000. They allow you to deduct based on the condition and what they are able to resell it for. I believe $2,000 is the highest. You will need to fill out an additional form for your taxes, but it was not too difficult to figure out. The dealership where I bought my new car was registered to accept cars for Rawhide and they filled out the necessary paperwork.

This is very very very far from perfect

For a laugh, this is the car i drive:

1989 Prelude Si

196,000 miles. The left wiper is held on with aluminum wire, the driver's door doesn't latch closed, so to keep it closed I have a padlock thru a bracket I screwed right into the door. The left headlight points upwards at about a 30 or 35 degree angle. it has a LOT of rust, the hood has faded dramaticly and someone puked on it last new year's eve, which stained that part of the hood a darker red. A bunch of components of the intake system have been removed because they were in the way of fixing something else. And finally, it won't start now. Oddly enough, all the electronics work fine, pop up lights, power windows, and all that stuff.

I donated a car in absolutely terrible condition to the Teen Challenge. I would have to call my mom to get the information as she was the one that found it for me quite a few years ago. I donated a 1992 Ford Probe with 243K miles on it that had been totaled out and brought back to life twice. I don't think that it was much of a tax break, but since I just wanted to get rid of it, the tax break was far from my biggest concern. If you cannot find anyone to take it and just want to get it out of the yard I would either look up Teen Challenge or else look in the paper for one of the salvage guys to take it. They normally tow it and will pay you a few hundred bucks. Probably not what you were looking for but it gives another option if you can't find anything else. Good luck.
