With the amount of balls that fly out of Chase with relative ease, Narveson is limited to probably one base runner. Why not use K-Rod? Isn't that what we got him for? Do you want Narveson on 90 pitches or a fresh K-Rod? The real problem here is Prince Fielder. NOT RRR!!!!!!!
I'm not sure there is a right answer here, it depends what you believe in and what perspective you choose to take. Personally, I don't like the 100 pitch threshold for pitchers in their peak years and I hate defined bullpen roles and switching relievers for the sake of switching relievers. If you believe in defined bullpen roles, I have no problem with your opinion on it, most people like the whole "each reliever has his own inning" concept.

My final point on the Nrvy thing, reiterating the point made earlier:

If Narvy has a 2-0 lead with a pitch count of 87 and he's throwing a no-hitter there is no way he comes out without allowing at least one base runner.

Other than it not being a no-hitter the situation isn't really any different. So, as long as somebody tells me that the smart move in a no-hitter would also have been to bring in K-Rod, I'll be OK with the move. Otherwise I think it's fair to at least question it.

Narveson from pitches 77-100 this year: .277/.358/.398. Its why he's not a top of the line guy, through 50 pitches he's really good. After that he struggles.
Those are his averages, sometimes he is better than that and sometimes worse. Tonight he was definitely better. I dont get why you dont leave him until there is 1 baserunner, that way you have 2 options in the 8th, if you just use K-Rod you are hoping he has his good stuff tonight but you already know Narveson has his.

I'm not sure I'm going to be able to handle September if they keep playing games like this. If this 8th/9th inning was in a crucial pennant race game, the items on my desk would be all over the room right now.

It's 12:35 here...at this point I'm sticking it out and opening a beer.

I live on the West Coast and these games are too late for me...

One of the advantages to being a grad student is that if I decide to come in at 11:00, nobody is going to notice or care. In fact, I think I will not go in at all tomorrow and just work from home. The disadvantage is that I am broke.
