Brooks Hall has 6 no-hit innings, but one walk. Rattlers up 3-0 through 6.
We don't have a no-jinx rule, but maybe we should re-consider http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif.

Ya sorry about that. I just wanted to be the first one to notice it. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Anyways, I'm not that familiar with Brooks Hall.

Final: @Wisconsin 9, South Bend 3

Hall & Hopkins heat up Rattlers

Chris Mehring, Wisconsin Timber Rattlers

GRAND CHUTE, WI - Brooks Hall took a no-hitter into the seventh inning and Greg Hopkins provided the offense as the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers beat the South Bend Silver Hawks 9-3 Monday afternoon at Time Warner Cable Field. Hall struck out six for his fifth win of the season. Hopkins homered twice and drove in four runs to lead Wisconsin’s 12-hit attack.

Hall retired the first six batters he faced. Roberto Ortiz walked to start the third, but Chris Jarrett lined into a double play. Hall set down the next 12 batters he faced.

Hopkins cracked a solo home run in the bottom of the second inning to put the Rattlers (48-46 overall, 10-14 second half) in front.

Chad Stang’s solo home run in the fifth inning made the score 2-0. Later in the inning, Nick Shaw’s RBI triple put the Rattlers up 3-0.

Hopkins struck in the sixth inning with an RBI single to pad the lead out to 4-0.

Hall set down the first two batters he faced in the top of the seventh. But Zach Walters lined a double to center just out of the reach of Stang to break up the no-hitter. Yazy Arbelo followed with an RBI single to end the shutout bid and pull the Silver Hawks (43-50, 9-15) to within 4-1.

Hall went seven innings, allowed a run on two hits, walked one, and struck out six. The six strikeouts in a game matched the professional high for Hall.

The Rattlers offense went on the offense in the bottom of the seventh. Mike Walker drove in a pair of runs with a single. Jason Rogers just missed a homer as he doubled off the top of the wall in left-center to send Walker home. Then, Hopkins crushed a two-run homer to left. Hopkins became the second Timber Rattlers player this season to hit two homers in a game. This blast capped the Rattlers scoring and put them in front 9-1.

Skyler Crawford tossed a scoreless eighth, but allowed a two-run homer to Walters in the top of the ninth. Casey Medlen came on and closed out the game.

The Timber Rattlers are off on Tuesday. Wisconsin starts a road series with the Lansing Lugnuts on Wednesday.

Wisconsin Box Score

Now that's an exciting outing for recently-turned 21-year-old Brooks Hall! He's flashed low-hit stuff before, as these two box scores show. That was Casey Medlen's Timber Rattler debut. Chad Stang with his 2nd pro HR -- he hit one in 2009, and a reminder that he missed all of 2010 with a right shoulder labrum tear; Nick Shaw and his .380 OBP tripled, singled, and walked, playing shortstop again with Carlos George sidelined; Jason Rogers, in LF today, quite the presence in the cleanup spot -- today's offensive star, Greg Hopkins, has had a streaky season, it had been a while since his last multi-hit effort...

Wisconsin Play-by-Play

Breaking it open the right way in a five-run 7th, no errors from the opponent, just clubbin' the ball...

Wisconsin Bottom of the 7th

  • Franklin Romero doubles (8) on a ground ball to left fielder Chris Jarrett.
  • Nick Shaw walks.
  • Mike Brownstein grounds out, shortstop Zachary Walters to second baseman Gerson Montilla to first baseman Yazy Arbelo. Franklin Romero to 3rd. Nick Shaw to 2nd.
  • Michael Walker singles on a ground ball to center fielder Ender Inciarte. Franklin Romero scores. Nick Shaw scores.
  • Jason Rogers doubles (8) on a fly ball to left fielder Chris Jarrett. Michael Walker scores.
  • Cody Hawn grounds out, pitcher Patrick Schuster to first baseman Yazy Arbelo.
  • Gregory Hopkins homers (6) on a fly ball to left field. Jason Rogers scores.
  • Chad Stang pops out to second baseman Gerson Montilla.

Hall's periphs are not the best. In fact, everything is pretty crappy except he gives up less than 1 HR/9.

He was striking more guys out in Arizona, but nothing special.

I appreciate the modest success, but he needs to show me more. Great game today, Brooks! More like that will definitely help his cause.

I was pretty impressed with Hall today and he moved up a few notches on my prospect list. Decent velocity on the fastball with sinking movement, ultra-simple delivery. Like I said, the slider definitely had its moments, with sometimes nasty tilt. As long as he continues to pound the bottom of the zone and refine his chanegup, he'll be more than fine on the mound. Just about the only times the ball was hit hard was when he left a pitch up in the zone. I wouldn't worry about the K rate yet, as long as the BB rate stays down.

If he adds/gets back to his old velocity while maintaining the sink on his fastball, he'll become a very good prospect very quickly.

Final: Brevard County 8, @Palm Beach 7

The Sea Cows won, no thanks to Austin Ross: 2.1 IP, 5 H, 7 R, 7 ER, 5 BB, 0 K, 1 HR. Yeesh. Thankfully, Efrain Nieves, Roque Mercedes, and Bradley Blanks shut the Cardinals down the rest of the way and allowed the 'Tees to come back--which they did behind a torrent of hits. D'Vontrey Richardson led the way with three hits, including two doubles; you know it was a good day for D'Vo because he wasn't caught stealing and didn't commit an error. Scooter Gennett, Kentrail Davis, Hunter Morris, and Shawn Zarraga all had two hits each; Kentrail also picked up his 26th steal (though he was also caught once) and an outfield assist. Khris Davis had a fine day with a hit and a walk, but for once he let his teammates do the heavy lifting.
A four-run 7th put BC over the top:

Brevard County Top of the 7th
  • Kentrail Davis singles on a line drive to center fielder Adam Melker.
  • With Hunter Morris batting, Kentrail Davis steals (26) 2nd base.
  • Hunter Morris triples (5) on a line drive to center fielder Adam Melker. Kentrail Davis scores.
  • Khristopher Davis walks.
  • D' Vontrey Richardson doubles (6) on a line drive to left fielder Domnit Bolivar. Hunter Morris scores. Khristopher Davis scores.
  • Shea Vucinich flies out to center fielder Adam Melker.
  • With Shawn Zarraga batting, D' Vontrey Richardson steals (7) 3rd base.
  • Shawn Zarraga singles on a ground ball to center fielder Adam Melker. D' Vontrey Richardson scores.
  • With Chris Dennis batting, Shawn Zarraga steals (6) 2nd base.
  • Chris Dennis strikes out swinging.
  • Juan Sanchez pops out to second baseman Starlin Rodriguez.

Blanks came in breathing fire to save Mercedes' bacon and the lead:

Palm Beach Bottom of the 8th
  • Ted Obregon strikes out swinging.
  • Starlin Rodriguez singles on a bunt ground ball to pitcher Roque Mercedes.
  • Greg Garcia walks. Starlin Rodriguez to 2nd.
  • Niko Vasquez walks. Starlin Rodriguez to 3rd. Greg Garcia to 2nd.
  • Pitcher Change: Bradley Blanks replaces Roque Mercedes.
  • Xavier Scruggs strikes out swinging.
  • Domnit Bolivar strikes out swinging.

I am pretty much to the point were I get as getty and excited as a middle school girl to see the damage Rivera and Ramirez are causing every night right now. It unbelievable! Wish there was a place for Ramirez in Wisconsin right now. It could be just a hot streak but with the power, outstanding hitting, recent walks, is starting to get me really excited with Yadiel. He is only 19 so its not like a college guy where you expect this hitting (Ramirez). It is always great when you get flashes like this and are able to see how could they really could be. (Bad news is they can be just that, flashes, check Carlos Gomez). K's have been a huge issue but seems like he has his confidence back (before he left T-Rats he was starting to come around). Hopefully he will get a second crack and excel. A legit SS prospect would be a nice little treat.

Sidenote, Rivera now has a six game multihit streak going and at least a 11 game overall (may be more) 5/12 bb/k ration in last 10 looks much better than the 1/25 he had prior to the past 11 games
