Trading for Carlos Beltran or another Outfielder?

Obviously the Brewers are a longshot, but just yesterday I heard Heyman on MLB Network saying the Brewers are still in on him. Also Melvin didn't deny anything when asked about it directly yesterday. Just said he doesn't want to talk about players from that team. Seems interesting to me.

Overall I stick to my point that unless Hart is moved, there is no reason to overpay for Beltran. The infield is the priority.

Sounds like Beltran is going to the Giants. It's being reported as very very close from multiple reports. Morosi said the Giants changed their mind and appear to be willing to include Gary Brown.

I think ultimately Melvin was just kind of there saying "We know we don't have (or want to give up) the prospects you're looking for...but if no one blinks and gives up a top prospect, we'll give you this and pick up the salary".

Agreed was hoping the Mets struck out on deals and had to keep him or trade him to the AL. This is not good by any means. Only good thing is he isn't going to Cincy or Pitt who were rumored to be after him as well as the Braves.

It's good only from the perspective that we didn't:

a. Overpay for Beltran

b. Trade a decent and controllable RF in Hart for a 2 month rental in Beltran

Assuming we make the playoffs, I will take my chances against the Champs. Grienke v. Lincecum, Yo v. Cain, Marcum v. Vogelsong is pretty close, I like our lineup much much better, Romo/Wilson v. K-Rod/Axford is close as well. Beltran is certainly a nice piece but I think we still match up pretty well.

Beltran going to S.F. really doesn't worry me. It's highly doubtful that Beltran will have the impact that Pat Burrell had last season, and now that Pat Burrell is being Pat Burrell again and Johnny Ben... I mean, Buster Posey is gone, that lineup really isn't one to be feared.

Yeah, Beltran alone doesn't make their lineup anymore menacing IMO. It's just as hard to hit well at AT&T Park as it is at Citi Field so there won't be any offensive outburst by switching parks. I'll admit, the Giants offense is now better with Sandoval, Beltran, Huff but not much. If the deal goes through as speculated, they overpaid a lot. Their two best prospects for a guy that will be gone in two months, all because they feared the Braves would move in.

The Giants just beat us 2 out of 3 and Lincecum didn't pitch in that series. And now they are adding Beltran. I don't like the way we match up against the Giants unless we improve our roster fairly significantly

and we beat them 2 out of 3 times in Milwaukee and Lincecum did pitch in that series.

If I had a choice, I'd much rather see the Giants than the Phillies in the 1st round.

Frankly, I really don't like the matchups against any good pitcher right now, especially on the road. That is subject to change if a few guys get hot at once.

Well Greinke didnt pitch, we lost one game on a fluke error on a ball lost in the sun, Prince is in the middle of a bad slump, and the series was in SF. Now, getting Beltran helps for sure, but there is no way I think we need to upgrade significantly to beat a team we have split with this year. Lincecum will be tough, we hit Cain pretty well, Voglesong is solid. We will throw out Greinke, Marcum, and Gallardo two of whom the Giants did not hit well.

Beltran + 4m for Wheeler. Could the Brewers have gotten the same deal for Thornburg or Peralta? Not saying I'd want to do it, but I'm curious.
