The fact that Idaho Falls has MiLB.TV coverage is pretty darn impressive, so a nice bonus for subscribers for this Helena series (live and archived).

You can look forward to a Wisconsin series on MiLB.TV later this month when the Rattlers visit Great Lakes.

You can pay $6.99 to subscribe just for a month if you're tempted.

Vinny's 124 RBI with Beloit in 2004 remains the singular most impressive full-season statistic I've seen in 11 years of Link Reporting here.

Final: Brevard County 8, @Jupiter 5

The 'Tees scored all of their runs in the last four innings, including three runs each in the 6th and 8th. Austin Ross had a blah start: 5 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 1 BB, 2 K, 1 HR, 4/7 GO/FO. Evan Anundsen, who is not injured, tossed three innings of relief, allowing just an unearned run, with a 3/0 K/BB. Kentrail Davis was on four times with three hits and a HBP and also stole his 24th base. Josh Prince doubled and homered--after his first homer of the year, on April 9th, I wrote: "Prince has now matched his 2010 home run total--and I wouldn't be surprised if they're still matched at year's end." He only needed three months to make me a liar. Shea Vucinich doubled twice. Not much going on for the rest of the stars, including Chris Dennis, who is now 0-11 with six strikeouts since returning to the Sea Cows. Scooter Gennett committed his 16th error, and D'Vontrey Richardson D'Vo'd it up with a throwing error and a pick-off.

Brevard County Top of the 6th
  • Michael Roberts singles on a fly ball to right fielder Kyle Jensen. Michael Roberts advances to 2nd, on fielding error by right fielder Kyle Jensen.
  • Josh Prince homers (2) on a line drive to left field. Michael Roberts scores.
  • Scooter Gennett pops out to third baseman Jose Torres in foul territory.
  • Kentrail Davis hit by pitch.
  • With Hunter Morris batting, Kentrail Davis steals (24) 2nd base.
  • Hunter Morris reaches on fielding error by first baseman Jaime Ortiz. Kentrail Davis scores. Throwing error by first baseman Jaime Ortiz.
  • Khristopher Davis strikes out swinging.
  • D' Vontrey Richardson grounds into a force out, third baseman Jose Torres to second baseman Dallas Poulk. Hunter Morris out at 2nd.

Brevard County Top of the 8th
  • Scooter Gennett grounds out to first baseman Jaime Ortiz.
  • Kentrail Davis singles on a ground ball to center fielder Jose Duarte.
  • Hunter Morris hit by pitch. Kentrail Davis to 2nd.
  • Khristopher Davis walks. Kentrail Davis to 3rd. Hunter Morris to 2nd.
  • D' Vontrey Richardson grounds into a force out, shortstop Jeff Dominguez to second baseman Dallas Poulk. Kentrail Davis scores. Hunter Morris to 3rd. Khristopher Davis out at 2nd. D' Vontrey Richardson to 1st.
  • Shea Vucinich doubles (14) on a line drive to center fielder Jose Duarte. Hunter Morris scores. D' Vontrey Richardson scores. Shea Vucinich out at 3rd on the throw, center fielder Jose Duarte to shortstop Jeff Dominguez to catcher Taylor Krick to third baseman Jose Torres.

So I'm not sure how well Strong hides the ball. There seems to be a lot of arm coming at the plate. Camera angle isn't the best, tho.

OF Ruben Ozuna exits the Helena game in the 4th -- Steve indicates that Ozuna has been experiencing the effects of a hip flexor strain, and this may be precautionary, but it's speculation from the booth at this point in the broadcast.

Chukars Reverse Fortune, Win 5-4

Idaho Falls erases 4-0 deficit to snap 5-game losing streak

By Aaron Cox / Idaho Falls Chukars

The Idaho Falls Chukars entered Wednesday night's game at Melaleuca

Field having lost their last five games, including several excruciating

blown leads, but for once it was the Chukars who came from behind as the

birds erased a 4-0 deficit to beat the Helena Brewers 5-4.

Through the first four innings of the game the Chukars defense

proved to be counter productive, as the unit committed four errors

leading to three unearned runs for the Brewers. Helena jumped out to an

early lead scoring an unearned run in the first inning to go up 1-0.

First baseman Nick Ramirez reached with two outs on an error from

Chukars shortstop Adrian Martinez. Ramirez would come in to score three

batters later on an infield RBI single from right fielder Max Walla.

The Brewers would push their lead to 3-0 in the third inning with

two runs, one unearned thanks to another Chukars miscue. Second baseman

Adrian Williams reached on a single to start the inning followed by an

RBI double from Ramirez. Two outs and an error later, Ramirez scored on

an infield single from shortstop Yadiel Rivera.

Helena would cap off their scoring with one more unearned run in

the fourth, as left fielder Robbie Garvey doubled to lead of the inning

and, after moving up on an error from first baseman Dean Espy, would

later score on an RBI fielder's choice by Williams to make the score

4-0.

The Chukars finally got on the board in the sixth, as Espy

continued his recent power surge with a 2-run home run to left-center

field to make the score 4-2. Espy, who leads the team with four homers

and 13 RBI on the season, has now hit three blasts in his last five

games.

Idaho Falls finished the comeback in the seventh as they took

advantage of a Brewers error to score three runs and go up 5-4. Catcher

Edul Escobar started the frame with a base knock to right and one out

later right fielder Runey Davis doubled to right to put two men in

scoring position with just one out. Left fielder Tyler Chism would drive

in the first run with a ground ball that turned into a error by Rivera,

Davis would then score on a balk by Helena reliever David Goforth, and

Chism would come in on an RBI single from second baseman Daniel Mateo.

The Chukars would actually finish the night with only eight hits

to the Brewers nine, but timely hitting led by Espy's 1-3 night with his

2-run homer and Mateo's 2-4 evening with an RBI led the Chukars to

victory.

On the mound, Idaho Falls starter Aaron Brooks received a

no-decision after allowing four runs, only one earned, over his five

innings. Instead it was reliever Jose Sanchez (2-1) who earned the

victory, as the left-hander tossed 2 1/3 scoreless innings, giving up

just one hit and striking out three. Goforth (0-2) was saddled with the

loss after allowing three runs, one earned, on three hits over just 2/3

of an inning. Chukars closer Edwin Carl earned his second save of the

year by getting the final five outs of the game, giving up two hits and

striking out three.

With the win, the Chukars (10-13) snap their five game losing

streak while the Brewers (10-13) fall into a last place tie in the North

Division. The two teams will meet up again Thursday for game two of

their 3-game series, with first pitch scheduled for 7:15 p.m.

Helena Box Score

Alright, first things first -- what the hell is a Chukar?

The Chukar Partridge or Chukar (Alectoris chukar) is a Eurasian upland gamebird in the pheasant family Phasianidae. It has been considered to form a superspecies complex along with the Rock Partridge, Philby's Partridge and Przevalski's Partridge

and treated in the past as conspecific particularly with the first.

This partridge has well marked black and white bars on the flanks and a

black band running from the forehead across the eye and running down the

head to form a necklace that encloses a white throat.

Now that we've got that out of the way, back to the game.

Leadoff man Ruben Ozuna went 0-3, & as Jim noted, was replaced with John Dishon at the start of the bottom of the 4th inning. Hopefully Ozuna won't have any lingering problems. Dishon was 2-2 with a pair of singles in relief of Ozuna. Yadiel Rivera was the only other Brewers hitter with a multi-hit game, adding a double in the 8th inning. Rivera, Ramirez, Walla, & Williams had one RBI apiece. Williams also stole his eighth base of the season. Catcher Tyler Roberts was 1-4 with a single.

Starter Mike Strong went six... strong... innings, allowing two runs on five hits; he walked three & struck out four. As Cox's game story related, Goforth had a rough game. Alex Jones came on in relief of Goforth; he retired four consecutive batters, striking out one, & pitched Helena's final 1.1 innings tonight.

Helena Play-by-Play

After the Chukars scored three in the 7th, Helena had shots at tying the game in both the 8th & 9th innings, but couldn't find one more RBI hit:

Helena Top of the 8th
  • Max Walla strikes out swinging, catcher Edul Escobar to first baseman Richard Espy.
  • Pitcher Change: Edwin Carl replaces Jose Sanchez.
  • Yadiel Rivera doubles (4) on a line drive to left fielder Tyler Chism.
  • Michael Nemeth called out on strikes.
  • Robert Garvey strikes out swinging, catcher Edul Escobar to first baseman Richard Espy.

Helena Top of the 9th
  • John Dishon singles on a line drive to left fielder Tyler Chism.
  • Adrian Williams out on a sacrifice bunt to pitcher Edwin Carl. John Dishon to 2nd.
  • Nick Ramirez strikes out swinging, catcher Edul Escobar to first baseman Richard Espy.

Final: AZL Padres 10, @AZL Brewers 7

AZL Box Score

The Brewers scored six runs in the first inning, but were let down by their pitching and some brutal defense. Five errors by five different Brewers, along with ten runs (seven earned) & sixteen hits allowed after Brae Wright's dominant 1st inning, were more than the offense could overcome.

Wright made his professional return from his 2009 Tommy John surgery -- he spent '10 rehabbing -- and he couldn't have done better: three batters faced, three strikeouts. As for the rest of the pitching performances, how 'bout that Brae Wright! Michael Schaub, new proud papa Mitch Stetter, & Joel Pierce combined to allow all of the offense from the Padres. Mitchell Connor pitched a scoreless 9th inning.

Leadoff man Malcolm Dowell went 2-5 with one RBI. Shortstop Renaldo Jenkins was 1-3 with two walks, two stolen bases, & two runs scored. DH Cameron Garfield was 1-5 with one RBI. Steve Felix had two singles & two RBI; Jose Garcia also had two hits, one of which was a triple. Third baseman Jalen Harris had a single, one RBI, & one stolen base. Brandon Macias & Matthew Franco each had a single & a walk.

Now for the list of shame -- E: Harris (5, fielding), Dowell (1, fielding), Macias (7, missed catch), Felix (1, fielding), Conner (1, pickoff). Pretty rough, even for Arizona League play.

AZL Play-by-Play

The Brewers' 1st inning; I'm sure it seemed like they were easily on their way to a win after singling & walking their way to a 6-spot:

AZL Brewers Bottom of the 1st

  • Renaldo Jenkins walks. Malcolm Dowell to 2nd.
  • Cameron
Garfield singles on a ground ball to center fielder Alberth Martinez.
Malcolm Dowell scores. Renaldo Jenkins to 3rd.
  • Steve Felix singles on a ground ball to right fielder Yoan Alcantara. Renaldo Jenkins scores. Cameron Garfield to 2nd.
  • Adam
Weisenburger grounds into a force out, shortstop Felipe Blanco to
second baseman Felix Cabrera. Cameron Garfield to 3rd. Steve Felix
out at 2nd. Adam Weisenburger to 1st.
  • Jalen
Harris grounds into a force out, shortstop Felipe Blanco to second
baseman Felix Cabrera. Cameron Garfield scores. Adam Weisenburger

Beckham Paces Biscuits to 6th Win in Last 7

Beckham doubles twice, drives in season-high four in 5-1 win

MONTGOMERY, AL - Tim Beckham doubled twice and drove in four to lead the Biscuits (11-9) to a 5-1 win over the Huntsville Stars (9-11) Wednesday at Riverwalk, their sixth win out of the last seven.

The Biscuits tied things up at 1-1 in the bottom of the first on a Beckham double that scored Shawn O'Malley, and after Nevin Ashley doubled home Beckham in the third to give the Biscuits their first lead, Beckham cleared the bases with a fourth inning double to bring the game to its final score.

Nick Barnese (5-3) walked a season-high six but allowed only one unearned run on two hits over five full innings to get the win, striking out a season-best eight. Neil Schenk worked a pair of scoreless relief frames before Matt Bush did the same, striking out the side in the eighth.

Cody Scarpetta (5-5) suffered the loss for Huntsville, allowing all five runs and lasting only four innings.

Besides Beckham's two doubles, Isaias Velasquez also contributed two hits.

RHP Chris Archer will toss for the Biscuits on Thursday night against RHP Wily Peralta.

Huntsville Box Score

Stumbling Stars drop their 5th straight; Cody Scarpetta's inconsistent, and to be honest, "meh" season, continues; RHP Santo Manzanillo walked one in an otherwise clean inning of relief; eight year veteran Robert Hinton is still only 26 years old, and as usual, was just fine wrapping up; Sean Halton doubled and walked twice -- walks and an extra-base hit, that will enhance the .323 average that's been just a tad empty, albeit still impressive -- on second glance, 32 of Halton's 93 hits have gone for extra bases, that's OK; Erik Komatsu walked and singled; the bottom five in the order went 0-for-17 with three walks...

Huntsville Play-by-Play

1-for-12 with RISP will waste the six free passes, one run in the 1st but a wasted opportunity --

Huntsville Top of the 1st

  • Logan Schafer flies out to center fielder Isaias Velasquez.
  • Erik Komatsu walks.
  • Sean Halton walks. Erik Komatsu to 2nd.
  • With Zelous Wheeler batting, wild pitch by Nick Barnese, Erik Komatsu to 3rd.
  • Zelous Wheeler reaches on a fielder's choice, fielded by third baseman Greg Sexton. Erik Komatsu scores. Sean Halton to 3rd. Zelous Wheeler to 2nd. Throwing error by third baseman Greg Sexton.
  • Brock Kjeldgaard walks.
  • Lee Haydel strikes out swinging.
  • Martin Maldonado strikes out swinging.

Two men on to start the 3rd, no runs --

Huntsville Top of the 3rd

  • Sean Halton walks.
  • Zelous Wheeler singles on a ground ball to right fielder John Matulia. Sean Halton to 2nd.
  • Brock Kjeldgaard strikes out swinging.
  • Lee Haydel strikes out swinging.
  • Martin Maldonado pops out to first baseman Henry Wrigley in foul territory.

Big Brock with more one-out frustration in the 5th --

Huntsville Top of the 5th

  • Erik Komatsu pops out to shortstop Tim Beckham.
  • Sean Halton doubles (26) on a soft line drive to right fielder John Matulia.
  • Zelous Wheeler reaches on fielding error by second baseman Shawn O'Malley. Sean Halton to 3rd.
  • Brock Kjeldgaard strikes out on foul tip.
  • Lee Haydel walks. Zelous Wheeler to 2nd.
  • Martin Maldonado strikes out swinging.

Final: West Michigan 7, @Wisconsin 5, 12 innings

West Michigan tops Rattlers in extra innings

By Chris Mehring / Wisconsin Timber Rattlers

GRAND CHUTE, WI - Clay Jones hit a grand slam in the top of the twelfth inning to put the West Michigan Whitecaps in front of the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers Wednesday at Time Warner Cable Field. West Michigan held on for a 7-5 win and sent the Timber Rattlers to their fifth straight loss.

West Michigan (43-45 overall, 11-8 second half) got on the board first with a two out rally in the top of the first inning. Rattlers starting pitcher Matt Miller retired the first two batters of the inning. But a walk and a single put runners at the corners. James Robbins singled to drive in a run for a 1-0 lead.

The Rattlers (46-43) responded in the bottom of the second inning. Mike Walker singled. Then, Cody Hawn drove a two-run homer to left to give the Rattlers a 2-1 lead. Hawn's homer also extended his hitting streak to 13 games.

West Michigan went back in front with a pair of solo homers. Hernan Perez hit a leadoff home run in the top of the third. Rob Brantly went deep with one out in the fifth for a 3-2 lead.

T.J. Mittelstaedt cracked a two-out solo homer in the bottom of the fifth inning to tie the game 3-3.

The game remained tied until the top of the twelfth. Wisconsin reliever Stosh Wawrzasek entered the game and gave up a leadoff single to Luis Castillo. He was 0-2 on Perez when he committed a balk. The signals between Wawrzasek and catcher Joey Paciorek appeared to be crossed. As Wawrzasek was into his delivery, Paciorek popped out for a pitchout. That appeared to surprise Wawrzasek and he held on to the ball as he completed his delivery. The balk was called and Castillo took second.

Perez blooped a double into shallow center field, but Perez only took third base on the play. Wawrzasek walked Brantly to load the bases with no outs.

The Rattlers right-hander came back to strikeout the next two batters. The count ran full on Jones. The 3-2 pitch was hit to the West Michigan bullpen in left-center for a grand slam and a 7-3 Whitecaps lead.

The first two Wisconsin batters to hit in the bottom of the twelfth inning were retired by Patrick Cooper. Then, Nick Shaw hit a ground rule double. Cooper, who had pitched 3-2/3 innings in relief, was replaced by West Michigan closer Bruce Rondon in a non-save situation.

Reggie Keen singled in Shaw. After Keen went to second on defensive indifference, Mittelstaedt singled to knock in Keen and the Rattlers were within 7-5. Franklin Romero followed with a single to right and the winning run came to the plate.

But Rondon struck out Mike Walker to end the game.

Wisconsin is 1-7 in extra innings this season.

The Timber Rattlers and Whitecaps play game two of the series on Thursday night. Maverick Lasker (0-2, 6.89) is the scheduled starting pitcher for Wisconsin. West Michigan has Kyle Ryan (4-7, 3.65) as their scheduled starter. Game time is 7:05 PM.

Wisconsin Box Score

Wow, how close did Stosh Wawrzasek come to escaping that jam? Darn. Kudos to LHP Brian Garman and RHP Eric Marzec for keeping it tied late; Matt Miller had 12 baserunners reach, but a seven-inning, three-run effort will work most nights; T.J. Mittelstaedt, in LF for this one, 3-for-6 and a triple shy of the cycle, OPS now .934 with eight HR's; 1B Cody Hawn singled and walked in addition to his 6th roundtripper...
