Here's a thought, would you trade Gamel to the Cubs for a two month rental of A-Ram? I'm not sure I would.
Would you trade Gamel for a division title and a good chance at a pennant and possibly more?

I'd have to assume they'd want a lot for Ramirez. He's swinging the bat well and he's a middle of the order hitter. Bad contract or not, he's worth a couple good prospects.

Plus, I still have a hard time believing Doug or RR want to take Casey out of the lineup, especially after he's been getting some RBI's the last few games.

The link also said he'd probably want that option waived so he could become a FA at year's end. That works for me.

This needs to happen.

That seems like a foolish move on his part, but if that's the case, I could get on board. As a rental, there isn't too much risk.
At this point I'd do it even if A-Ram wanted the option to vest. He could be Prince's replacement in the lineup and on the payroll for one year.

More importantly, he'd fill the gaping hole defensively at 3rd base, the gaping hole in the lineup that is Casey McGehee, and most of all he'd fill the gaping hole that is the 5-spot of the Brewers lineup.

I can't think of a more perfect fit available on the market. This would put the Brewers over the top imo.

Alright, so do you do Aramis Ramirez+Sean Marshall+Marlon Byrd for Tyler Thornburg+Caleb Gindl?

Marshall fills @*#*%% in our pen, albeit one that's not that big with our new found depth, but a nice one either way.

Then finish it off with a Jamey Carroll trade.

And our lijneup when Rickie gets back would be incredible.

Move Weeks back atop the order;

Vs RH'ers

Weeks-2B

Morgan*-CF

Braun-LF

Prince*-1B

Aram-3B

Hart-RF

Carroll-SS

LH'ers

Weeks 2B

Byrd CF

Braun LF

Prince* 1B

Aram 3B

Hart RF

Carroll SS

Lucroy C

B|ench

C-Kottaras/Moldanado

IF-Green/Betancourt

OF-Morgan or Byrd/Schaefer OR Willy Mo Pena,,,

Pen

CL-Ax

SU-Krod

7th-Saito/Hawkins

Loogy/MRP-Marshall

MRP-Loe

Long Man-Wily Peralta

Greinke/Marcum/Gallardo/Wolf/Narveson

THAT'S a playoff roster that could legitimately win it all. Not @*#*%% as far as I can see.

Almost certainly not going to happen however.

At the end of the day though, I think I'd be willing to gut the rest of our farm system to pick up both the men named Ramirez, Alexei and Aramis as long as we got back one of the two star lefties from the other team. Thorton or Marshall.

Can you guarantee that pennant and possibly more? No. And FWIW, it will cost more than Gamel.

That sounds like an absolute statement when it's anything but absolutely true.

If there were no financial considerations, I could see the Cubs pulling off such a swap.

Nope, I can't guarantee anything. But it would undoubtedly make it more likely to happen. What if he's the difference between a pennant and missing the playoffs altogether?

Also, why are you so convinced that he would cost more than Gamel? Do you think that even if we were to take on the rest of ARam's salary?

The Angels are gonna fall out of that race out west, TEX is going to run away with it. So I'd expect him to waive it if he went to MIL. Plus, I'd give up Gamel for Ramirez. This is a "go for it" year, and to be honest, I don't think Gamel is ever going to be anything special.

You have to know the Cubs are going to want the most they can get if they are going to move ARam. If ARam waives his no-trade clause he instantly because the best available bat on the market, even more so than Hunter Pence. If the Mets can get the Giants 3rd best prospect/best pitching prospect then the Cubs should reasonable expect Gamel AND say Thornburg (or one of Peralta/Nelson). The price would be high but you also have the possibility of having ARam this year and perhaps next year especially if you reallocate Fielders/FRod's money to ARam among others. So yes the price will be high.

With that said, from a personal standpoint I don't want to trade ARam. If the Cubs trade ARam then they might as well blow the whole thing up and wait for 2013 cause 2012 would be lost.

With that said if you think that the price is high the Brewers might want to consider Jeff Baker. Outside of versatility (1b/2b/3b) he is hitting lefties hard this yr to the line of .358/.373/.494/.867 and the price would likely be someone in you in the 20-25 range on your prospect list.

From the Cubs POV I would NOT do that trade even if the Brewers are willing to eat Soriano's contract. IMO, the only way the Cubs move Sean Marshall this year if said team that wants him take Soriano's contract without the Cubs eating 0% of the deal. In other words, I doubt Marshall get's move this year as Jim Hendry still maintain that he expect the Cubs to compete in 2012, which is why I don't see ARam or Marshall being move. Marlon Byrd on the other hand.................the Cubs have Brett Jackson fast approaching and IMO would like to move Byrd to open up CF for him. Byrd/Baker for Hinton/Schafter is a deal I could see the Cubs being interested in.

Guys remember this, ARAM can waive his rights to certain teams. The Cubs may run out of options and instead of paying the rest of his salary and his buyout they take the best deal they can with a team ARAM will waive his rights to. Enter Milwaukee http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif There's alot involved in this transaction.

I'm hearing on Chicago radio now that ARam wasn't being that serious about waiving his no trade clause. My personal take is that there's probably a 95% chance of him waiving it now.

You'd think he would just want to get out of Chicago and go to a contender at this point.
That's what Bruce Levine (Cubs beat reporter) was saying just an hour ago. ARam watched Fukudome get traded to Cleveland and Levine noticed how some of the players had that hint of jealousy in their demeanor that Fukudome would get to actually play for something this summer.
