Jeff Cirillo - on air personality

What are your thoughts on him in the booth?

I like him. He's raw obviously and he was sometimes a touch awkward... but it was a nice addition to have the perspective of an accomplished major league hitter talking us through at bats and where to look for pitches. I was a little bothered by BA though, he was acting weird... asking off the wall questions which led to a lot of dead air. My favorite BA/JC exchange was:

JC: (after watching the replay of Kotsay's game winner) We call that "gator-arming" it...
BA: Is that kind of like what you do when reaching for the bill at the dinner table?

.
.
(5 second pause)
.
.

JC: What?

What did you all think of Cirillo in the booth?

His perspective and insights are so much better than Bill's. I agree on his "voice," if that's what you want to call it. He sounds a bit timid, and he talks a little quietly. Wish he'd get the job full time, and I imagine he'd grow into this.

Was he on again yesterday? I missed the game.

I liked him for what he said, he told it straight, no sugar coating, no teamspeak, just baseball.

I can see where others would be turned off by his voice but it didn't bother me, I liked his substance enough the presentation didn't bother me.

Haven't had the chance to listen to Cirillo too much.

From 1997-1999, Cirillo posted 17.2 WAR, good for 17th in the majors over that time period. He was a really good hitter for 5-6 years there, and it will be interesting to hear his take on things.

He needs to talk louder, slower, and develop some chemistry with his partner. The content of what he says is top notch, but his delivery is awful right now.
I tried to log in on my iPad. Turns out it was an etch-a-sketch and I don't own an iPad. Also, I'm out of vodka.

Really like him. He was a regular on the D-List back in the day and still comes on their show sometimes. His insight and analysis has been great, way better than Schroeder's, but as others have said he needs to work on his volume and delivery. Once he gets those down he would be a fantastic analyst.

His analysis is pretty spot on. I think he needs to improve a lot, but he made a great call when Kotsay had the game winner. He mentioned about the Reds pitcher trying to sneak pitches under Kotsay's hands. And it was a risky move if Kotsay could get around on one. Next pitch they tried the same thing and Kotsay ripped it to right. I don't think Bill notices things like that very often.

Cirillo's biggest issue right now is playing off Anderson. He still has a studio mind set where even a second of dead air can be killer and so if Anderson doesn't immediately talk after Cirillo is finished he'll tend to add an extra word or two to fend off dead air.

I think Cirillo is doing a good job so far with the expected room for improvement. What I would really like to see is for Rillo' to take DAvey Nelson's spot on the pre game and post game shows. Will that happen? Probably not. But neither will Cirllo taking the place of Rock before Rock is ready to hang em up.

Steve Stone doesn't have a professional sounding voice either, but he's one of the best. Joe Buck has the store bought voice, but he's a tool. As for Cirillo, I think he's doing pretty good for getting thrown right into things, though the evil part of me would have liked the comic relief that Augie as the color guy would have brought. He's been around for three years, and still looks like a deer in the headlights on the booth shows.

Cirrillo sounded a little better today from what is saw (yesterday he would really drop off at times and you really couldn't hear him). It seems he has gotten better and more confrontable each day. I can deal with not having that big voice because he doesn't beat around the bush and gives great analysis. He has personality but hard to show it with no chemistry between him and BA (I think him and Sutton would have been a great combo, but I was a big Sutton fan).

I wish Schroeder's vacation would become permanent.
Perhaps us good folks at BF.net would be kind enough to get him a time share in the Maldives.

From just listening to his comments on the highlights, I agree with most of what has been said. He doesn't have a great voice but he obviously has a good understanding of baseball. I also want to like this guy, which helps.
