Fantasy Football Keepers Question

mrbergmann

My fantasy football league became a keeper league last year. I'm really excited about the upcoming season, as I think there will be even more strategy involved in preparing for the draft, not totally knowing who will be available.

For those that have/do participate in keeper leagues, my question is this: how far in advance of your draft did you have to announce your keepers? We figure we have to give the other members of the league some time to prepare for who is going to be gone before the draft even starts, but we haven't determined how much time.

Anyone have any advice on systems that worked for you?

In the League I run, our 8 man keeper date is July 1st. We have defensive players, and the top LB's tend to get protected, making the draft even more fun. I would think that most of your teams would want to know everyone's keepers at least a month in advance. In my case, we do two months, and that works really well.

We usually do about 3 weeks ahead of time. Email is sent out to figure out the best draft time, and keepers and available dates are sent back. By the time the draft date is finalized, all keepers are in and included in the draft date email. Works well for our league.

I am in a keeper that sounds like sbryl. Although I am dreading this because I have to get rid of S. Jackson. Someone offered me LJ but he may hold or not play (doubtful, but still). That's why I like deciding keepers until 3 weeks before the draft.

we keep our 8, usually top tier guys that play very little and chance of injury in a pre-season game is low. Our draft is about two weeks before the season starts. I really don't recall somebody's stud keeper going down because our lists were due too early. Hope that helps.

We are a dynasty league and our keepers are due March 1st. We have to cut down to 20 people. We just finished our 6rd rookie/FA draft this week. Rosters are now set and there will be a ton of movement between now and the season as people make trades, etc.
