2011-07-08 Reds (Leake) at Brewers (Greinke) - [Brewers, Kotsay walkoff winners off F. Cordero, 8-7]

I like Rillo, but I wish he would speak up. He speaks so softly that it's difficult to hear. A couple years ago when he was on the post-game show, "Rillo's Rants" were hilarious. Nicest ranting ever.

Greinke's homer pitch to Votto was bad, but other than that he wasn't bad. Two routine ground balls make it through our stationary defense.
Except that wasn't the case. All 3 ground balls were hard hit and would have been singles with any defense out there.

I get that people want Greinke to succeed but let's call it as it is.

You're right that the two singles were routine type of groundballs that easily could have been outs instead and our infield defense does suck, but on those two hits, the balls just found perfect holes moreso than lack of range by our infielders.

The one between Betancourt and McGehee, neither moved. The one to the right side would have been a single anywhere, but it was not hard hit. Only two hard hit were Phillips and Votto.

Neither moved because they weren't getting to it. No one gets that ball. They weren't screamers but it wasn't a dribbler.

They were solid singles

Gamel not McGehee.

Ha. I'm so used to McGehee not being able to move, said it by accident.

Zack sure does seem to get a lot of swings and misses on balls out of the zone. I agree with Danzig, I'd just sit FB on him and look for one I could handle.

Geez Gamel out guessed himself there, that was a nice pitch to hit.

I stand by my hypothesis that ZG is good (or bad) enough with his misses that guys sort of "know", with a greater degree of certainty, where he is going to miss and thus it's easier to hit his mistakes than the mistakes of other guys who are more "effectively wild". His own consistency in the general area of the zone hurts him. Thus his BABIP seems "unlucky" when in fact his own style of pitching is concducive to having a high BABIP.

Which makes sense considering his career BABIP is .309 and he's played on terrible defensive teams.

Good bounceback inning for Greinke, but the we'll see how he fares against the top of the order the next time around.

Well that was a prophetic statement.
