Mike Leake

8-4, 4.03

Leake retired 11 in a row until he issued two walks in top of the sixth and both runners later scored to take away a quality starter. Manager Dusty Baker believed the heat and running the bases in the bottom of the fifth affected Leake.

Well, looks like Roenicke finally got it right. Gamel hitting 5th and playing over McGehee, and Betancourt hitting 7th. I'd prefer he hit 8th, but it's better than 5th or 6th. If Braun was in there it would still look a lot better, but hopefully he will tomorrow. Time for another retro uni win.

Hate the lineup. 3 straight lefties, terrible. I don't like taking Weeks out of the leadoff spot but in this case he should be #2. Stacking those lefties is making things way to easy on the Reds.

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

Terrible? C'mon. I realize it's now traditional to rip on the lineup hours before the start of every game, but let's have some perspective. If and when it ever got to the stage, late on, when Dusty was bringing in a lefty for Prince, I'm sure either Gamel or Kotsay will be pulled for either McGehee and/or Gomez anyway. Sheesh!

Not everybody rips on the lineup for every game. There is always somebody who will not like the lineup.

How is pulling Gamel for either of those guys good? Why force a situation on yourself if you don't have to? If you split up the lefties you force the other guy to make adjustments instead of yourself. Make him react while doing nothing yourself. He either has to walk a guy or bring in a different pitcher which would work too your advantage. 3 lefties in a row is terrible strategy.

Will the real Zack Greinke please stand up?

"Bump bump bump bump bump.....bump bump.....bump bump.............we're gonna have a problem here"

I think everyone's fear is that the real Zack Greinke has been standing up. Prove those doubters wrong Zack! A nice efficient 7 inning, 2 run performance would do just fine.

Prince does OK against righties, Gamel doesn't have enough MLB ab's to tell me if he can hit lefties or not, and Kotsay can't hit lefties or righties. The three lefties don't bother me. All things considered this is a pretty good lineup. If Braun were available you could plug him in at 3, Hart at 5, Gamel at 6, and remove Kotsay.

Why put three left handed hitters in a row? Why can't 5-8 look like this?

Lucroy

Gamel

Betancourt

Kotsay

Three lefties in a row is just asking for Chapman later in the game.

Which is why you assume that like most other hitters he will hit opposite handed pitching better. Best case scenario is that Gamel's power will be mostly nullified.

I know Greinke's been inconsistent this year, but this a very important series and if he can shut down the Reds tonight it will be a big step in the right direction.

At least they put a good defense behind him.

Am I the only one who doesn't want Braun pinch hitting if he can play a full game? I just don't want him to try pinch hitting once tweak something or find out its still too sore and either lose time to backdate his DL or spend another few days shorthanded.

I HATE Gamel starting at 3b. It would not surprise me at all if he has some throwing errors tonight. On Wednesday, I was watching him warm up and he launched at least two throws over Prince's head and into the crowd. To me it seemed like he was really thinking about the throws too a la Knoblauch.

He should be sent down to play everyday at 1b. Call up Green to play 3b.
