Well, that wasn't particularly pretty or easy but it was a lot better than many of our 8th innings lately. I guess Hawkins on back to back days might not work if that's why his velocity was down. I hope it's just because he hasn't been asked to do it yet this year and can build the arm back up.

The simple way to solve all this draft nonsense without doing anything else is to just make players declare for the draft like they do in the NBA. If you want to sit out a year? Fine... but you have play independent ball, no going back to college...

Obviously that doesn't fix the flawed compensation system or any of that other stuff, but it simplifies the entire draft process. If you don't like where you are drafted? Just like in every sport that's just too bad, go out and prove those organizations that passed on you that they were wrong, just like Aaron Rodgers. There would be none of this signability crap, no wasting draft picks hoping a high school kid would sign, and so on.

I think the theory might be that Votto is equally as good against RH and LH, so start with Hawkins for Votto and then Phillips, and have Braddock ready to face Bruce. That's what I was thinking anyway... who knows.
Bruce is actually hitting lefties slightly better than righties. Main difference is SLG. Votto is absolutely DESTROYING lefties.

I just checked and his fastball velocity was down to the first couple hitters, but it was up to 93-94 for the last couple.

So Hawkins probably was the right call then.

I guess that HR didn't jump start McGehee, 4 pretty weak PAs.
