Collmenter is trying to get back on track. In his first six starts, he compiled a 1.05 ERA. However in four starts since he is 0-4 with a 7.54 ERA. Manager Kirk Gibson said Collmenter needs to mix his breaking ball in with his fastball and changeup.

The scary part about going 4 days without Braun is that next year we will have to go 162 games without Prince Fielder. The middle of the lineup suddenly looks very empty without the duo.

I actually don't have any problems with this lineup, other than the fact that Braun is still out. As much as I dislike Kotsay, he's actually swinging a hot bat right now and looks good in the 5 hole. Lucroy is actually hitting higher in the order, Gamel is playing instead of McGehee, Betancourt isn't playing. Not much to complain about today surprisingly. Maybe Roenicke decided that he actually needs to put a good lineup out there after losing 7 of 8. Braun in for Kotsay and this would be an ideal lineup with the players we have on this roster.

If the money saved on Fielder can be used to fill 1B, SS, and 3B with average bats the lineup could be as potent (impotent?) as this season's healthy lineup.

Its relatively easy to find a 1B who can hit 25-30 HR's a year. Sign one of those and put Gamel at 3B and McGehee as a utility guy and the offense should be strong....maybe move Weeks to the middle of the order

I love RRR post game whining about...."Why can't we get early leads...Why can't we put up runs in the first.. Our offense is good we should be able to score....Cry Cry Cry." RRR are you an idiot? Did you see the lineup you ran out there yesterday? Week, Gomez, Hart, Prince, Yuni, Casey, Wilson, and Kottaras. I'm surprised they scored three.

Here is to Yo getting back on track and Braun getting healthy. We need to get on one of those hot streaks soon or this year is going to be a waste. I have come to terms with the fact that we went all in and at best it will result in a playoff berth and maybe one or two postseason wins. So at this point I am hoping thery hang around long enough to get in with a run in Spetember and win a game or two in the postseason.

I would love to think that, but history suggests that the Brewers will have to overpay for free agents and the only players available will be in the decline of their careers. Considering the list of potential free agents, they will probably go with Green at 3B and Gamel at 1B. As for SS, it will probably (and should) be a defensive upgrade, Jack Wilson maybe. Spend the cash on bullpen help. I guess the team could potentially be better, but it's hard to project what kind of production you will get out of Green and Gamel for a full MLB season.

Braun has gotten worse and is getting an MRI, I wonder if they will put him on the DL and shelve him until after the ASB.

Not so easy to find one of those. Only 13 hit over 25 last year and they are as follows Pujols, Konerko, Cabrera, Dunn, Votto, Texeira, PRINCE, Gonzalez, Howard, Pena, Huff, Laroche. Which of those guys do you suggest we sign? We could maybe get Dunn, Pena, or Laroche, but we would be paying them a lot or giving up a decent amount to get them. Gamel will be fine there next year, but it won't be as easy to replace Prince as some think.

A .647 OPS never looks good in the 5 hole, under any circumstances. If I was Kirk Gibson I'd tell my pitcher to not throw Prince a single strike all game

Really they just need to keep within 2-3 games of the division leader. No hot streak necessary. The offense has been shaky the whole year, even when they were winning games it was primarily due to good starting and relief pitching. There were only a few blowouts. It's clear that they aren't going to run away with the division, but nobody else is either. Keep it close going into September and see what happens.

As for the playoffs, the NL Central winner is probably going to get stuck with the Phillies again, with the Braves taking the NL West winner. The Brewers took 2/3 in Philadelphia and are one of the few teams that can come close to matching Philly's starting rotation.

I have Green and Gamel penciled in at 1B and 3B right now. Even if they're slightly below average and the Brewers can sign someone like Alex Gonzalez at SS I think the trio has a good chance at being as productive as McGehee-Betancourt-Fielder, simply because McGehee and Betancourt have been awful.

You cannot replace Prince, he's a likely future Hall of Fame player, but it should be fairly easy to find a 1B who can hit 25-30 HR's. You could do it in house with Gamel or Hart (and sign a free agent corner outfielder) you could sign a free agent 1B. They should have plenty of money to play with, with Prince's salary off the books. The point being, no you cannot replace a Prince but next year the 5 spot doesn't need to be a black hole like it is today with Kotsay just because Prince is gone.

I think the only reason RR started Wilson is LF was so he could give Kotsay 5 of the next 7 starts and the fans would be happy. I'm glad Kotsay has been better recently (made his first out today as I type this) but still only has a .647 OPS despite having the platoon advantage early and often. Brutal.

And I am amazed that RR is playing Gamel at 3B again. Has Gamel gotten ANY starts there in the minors recently?

No, but based on the fact that Roenicke said he's comfortable with Wilson in LF because he has shagged balls out there, I'm sure he's fine with Gamel because he has at least played 3B before.
