Greg Dobbs

Let's say Brewers are reluctant to turn over 3B to a raw rookie like Green in the middle of a pennant race and they don't trust Gamel defensively. Who's available to bail them out at that position? It would seem logical that the Marlins would listen to offers for Greg Dobbs, who not only would make a fine platoon for 3B, but can also play the OF.

I really only want to add a SS and the cheaper of Carroll/Furcal at that. Neither appears to be in line to be even a "Type B" free agent, so compensation shouldn't be a whole lot. RR is showing he'll play Gamel some at third and Green appears to be ready. I'd hate to give up anything at all for a third baseman.

Note too that Gamel probably can handle the corner outfield once a week if necessary and done against the with the rightpitcher/against the right lineup.

Dobbs is 32 years old, and while he is having a good year so far this year, he was pretty horrible in 2009 & 2010 with sub .300 OBP seasons. He's walking more this year, but his SLG % hasn't been above .400 since 2008. His career OBP vs rhp is just .315 ... I see him as nothing special. He'd certainly be an upgrade over Counsell or Wilson though
