2011-07-01 Brewers (Gallardo) at Twins (Liriano) - 9:10 PM CDT? [Brewers lose, 6-2]

Oy my god, the sky is falling. They might be out of first place by a game. There are weak links on the team and improvements could and should be made but the amount of chicken littles on this board is crazy. Makes me long for the days of 2005 when expectations weren't as high and people weren't as negative.

I could careless if they are in first or not at this point in the season but there are some glaring weaknesses that this team must correct or they won't be in first or in the wild card at the end of the year when I do care. and to this point of the season, there doesn't seem to be any concern from DM or RR and that's concerning to me.

I actually agree completely, but have finally come around to realize that IGTs are just rant/vent threads. It can be entertaining.

Maybe we have higher expectations because Melvin traded our farm system for 2 top of the rotation pitchers and decided to keep Fielder to "go for it this year"?

This team has the worst record in the national league on the road. They are about to fall a game behind a cardinal team that has been decimated by injuries.

I mean if we can't expect an outstanding year once in awhile then whats the point of being fan?

I have realistic expectations. I don't expect every player to be an all-star. I don't expect management to make quick decisions by they never do. I don't expect every pitcher to throw 7 innings of two hit ball. I realize that every player, even the best of them, has flaws. I try to remember there are 162 games left in the season. When I say I long for the days of 2005 that is in regards to this forum's posters not so much in terms of production I would like to see on the field.

And yes Bucksman I do have low expectations, but they are of the constant whining from posters much like yourself who litters these forums day after day with negative posts. Unfortunately even with those low expectations, as a forum we are still not meeting those.

Which is funny, because ranting is explicitly against IGT and Brewerfan rules. If people want a place to post things like "you suck you fat slob," then the staff suggests they find another place to post.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with being disappointed in the team's play, expecting big things, etc. but the IGTs have become unreadable for many. It's not fun for many people to watch the team play right now, but it's even less fun for those who come here looking for good discussion about the games and find nothing but kneejerk reactions.

So as long as the team shows up and plays 9 innings your pretty happy about things then?

Do you think this team is living up to their own expectations right now?

If you don't think the players and the owner have the same expectations for this team as the fans on this board your kidding yourself.

They expect this team to win and win big.

For some reason I fear this season could end up like 2007. The division is eminently winnable. AGAIN. But if this team keep performing like this on the road (no matter what the reason, or if there is no reason at all), they may not even get a chance to let things slip away, as they did in late September in Atlanta in 2007.

The lineup that series was something like, Weeks, Hardy, Braun, Fielder, Hart, Jenkins, Hall, Estrada. That lineup is probably better than what the team has this year. In my mind the Brewers owe nothing to any position player on this year's roster not named Braun, Fielder, Weeks or Hart. If you're all-in you have to be all-in. You don't have to mortgage the future, but everyone else should be dealt with with strictly on a performance basis. Obviously you need to manage the people as people, but a good clubhouse will go bad just as easily over frustration due to underperformance as it will over guys thinking someone is dealt with unfairly.

They need to get this done, or accept the fact they're not much different than Pittsburgh. It's nice that the Brewers have the 1 in the 1-15 record the NL Central has posted in the playoffs since the Classies won the series, but my 3rd grad Kickball League championship trophy is nice, too.

I hear you on this, but it is hard to have a good discussion when this team is playing such a frustrating brand of baseball recently. Like an earlier OP said, expectations are high since we sold to farm and are all in this year. I think the rants and kneejerk reactions stem from the fact that a lot of us realize that if nothing happens this year it won't be happening for a very long time.

It's baseball, I am not going to let it affect my life once the last out is made. I don't feel the need to say bad things about players because they try their best and fail though.

Baseball, and sports, are meant to be entertainment. A means of having fun and living vicariously through a bunch of grown men players a game. The day that I don't enjoy watching baseball, win or lose, is the day I stop watching. Are there going to be days where I am disappointed in the performance or outcome, sure, but again, I am not going to have a personal vendetta against a person because they couldn't dig out a grounder.

Do you think this team is living up to their own expectations right now?

A game out of first, yes. Could they be better, of course. Could they be worse, of course. I am happy with where they are right now.

Cool but I am guessing a loss to the players might mean less than a loss to the fans.

Good post. Pitching and defense is more than half the game though, and this team far out-trumps the '07 squad in the pitching department, anyway. It really wouldn't take much to equal/outproduce them offensively either (Yuni/McG updrades)

Luke Hughes took his giant eyes off the ball. The most interesting part here will be to see who is sent down to activate Saito.

We got 18 minutes before Kotsay gets his bonus. Hurry up Doug!

This lineup is brutal to watch right now. Everyone besides Braun and Fielder has been an out machine (with a special shout out to McG).

This isnt a "knee jerk" reaction, I actually thought it out long and hard before posting:

This team is like a scared puppy with his tail between his legs when it plays on the road. It's either poor focus or they're mental midgits. With their home/road records as they are, what other explanation is there?
