They didn't seem to have this much loyalty to JJ when he was struggling.

Attitude matters. From all accounts, Casey is at the top of the heap and JJ was kind of meh.

A guy who is a horrible fielder with a sub 600 ops doesn't help you even if he is the best teammate in the world.
And if his attitude and being a good teammate are a benefit to the team, they are every bit as valuable on the bench, as those are clubhouse traits anyway.

I don't think it's ALL that should matter, but it should be foremost in the equation.

Very nice job by Yo getting out of that. Time for the middle/bottom of the order to do something.

At least for starters it should be. McGehee can at least sit on the bench. He doesn't hurt the team as much then.

I'd say that it is A LOT easier to break out of a slump with the right attitude than with a poor one, thus I'm not sure that it's purely a "locker-room" trait.

Not sure I'd agree with that. I think it's just one of those things that people "think" matters. What really matters is if you have the talent and skill to work your way out of it. I'm starting to wonder if Casey does.

Rickie had a great attitude and was considered a future cornerstone player for us and he got sent down when he was struggling a few years ago.

If we were 10 games out and had no chance to win the division I could understand sticking with him but this is the year to win the darn thing.

We just depend so much on Prince and Braun. Rickie is great but he is streaky.

I hate to pile on Casey in this thread tonight, but he doesn't make the play that Valencia made to end the inning.

It's getting old being jealous of other team's defense... especially when it's a player from the Twins who have been horrible defensively this season.

What are you talking about? Attitude doesn't make someone a good hitter. I would say you need confidence, but a bad attitude isn't going to make you a bad hitter or make it harder to get out of a slump.

I don't think you guys understand Casey isn't in a slump. Maybe if this lasted a month you could call it a slump, but half of a year is a sign. He overachieved last year, and has now come back to earth.

Talent, skill, and work ethic. Work ethic is part of "attitude" in my book. If you don't think work ethic matters...

We were talking about attitude, which I consider positive or negative. You can have work ethic and still not be considered a "positive attitude" guy. I think work ethic is independent of attitude... but we should probably get back to the game.

So if 90% of the fans see how awful Casey is performing, what the heck are RR and DM watching? What is their reasoning? This is so much more than something he can break out of, but they think he will. Asinine.

Someday Yo will quit getting to so many full counts and quit walking inept hitters (including pitchers) and I will rejoice.

Hooray for a CS! Nice throw Lucroy.
