2011-06-30 Brewers (Wolf) at Yankees (Sabathia) - [Brewers swept, 5-0]

Well that is all a matter of opinion as well I guess. There can be things like the bunt that was mentioned but there are also pitching moves and pinch hitters that have come through. But each person looks at these things a bit differently so it can be debated. But just because you say something on a message board doesn't make it the "right move" and the manager "costs" us the game. That is the entertaining thing. People actually believe they know that the manager cost the team the games and that their moves would have won a game. A pitcher or a batter is never to blame. We can be two hits in a game and if a pitcher gives up a run, someone will say that RRR put in the wrong pitcher and costs us the game. Because BF.net guy says he would have done this, it would have worked, and we would have won the game. So this year RRR has cost us (insert number here) games. This is entertaining because fans of every team say these things about every manger, year in and year out. All these managers have to do is look on the internet and they would know what to do.

It is the managers job to put the team in the best position to succeed. Kameron Loe and Tim Dillard pitching against lefties in close games does not do this. Daniel Day Herrera pitching in close games against righties did not do this. Carlos Gomez hitting second does not do this. Constantly making outs by bunting or getting caught stealing in front of Braun and Prince does not do this. Hitting Mark Kotsay instead of Jonathan Lucroy or George Kottaras does not do this.

Do you argue these points?

RR has made some bad decisions, but I think some of the criticism here is over the top. RR came in for big criticism here one night the team got shut out because of his pitching decisions. The bottom line is that the team is still good enough to be in first place in their division. That's all that matters. Just win the division. Then you just hope they can pull off a Seahawks-type upset in the first round of the playoffs and you go from there. That would be quite an accomplishment for an NL Central team. Hasn't happened in a while.

This was just a lame series all around against a top tier team. Hard to blame Roenicke for the sweep when his starting pitchers put up terrible outings and his hitters couldn't hit a lick with RISP. Go get 'em in Minnesota.

brewmann, I also was wondering if you were on a bender with that last post.

10 pegs but only 3 wins. Until teams make the playoffs based on number of pegs, I am more concerned about wins. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
You do realize you don't have to take everything literally, right?
Literal would have been if I thought actual pegs were being discussed.

The point of my response is that I often notice Brewer fans getting too worried about how the Brewers are being perceived by others (especially after a particularly bad game or stretch of games). I like when the Brewers have a high team ranking on ESPN.com but let's not worry ourselves too much about falling in that.

I agree with you on the idea of splits being kind of trivial when compared to the big pictures, but your happenstance comment is far from the truth. After watching a good amount of the games this season the team takes on a completely different form when they are on the road. You can almost feel it while watching a game. They exude confidence at home and show non on the road.

I'm still waiting for the team that can look confident while losing and while dominating. Poor performance causes grimaces and exasperated looks, not the other way around.

This team doesn’t have the same mental makeup on the road as they do at home. Does it make sense? Not really, but that is 100% the case. The pitchers don’t have confidence in their stuff the hitters lose their approach.

Do you have any evidence of this? This is the kind of psuedo-analysis we get from ESPN but it doesn't really mean anything.
