Cocktails - What you like, what you hate, who knows how to serve them

The last hard numbers I saw/read were that 1/3 of all Korbel is sold in Wisconsin - and Wisconsin consumes 14% of all brandy in the US. All brandy is included in that number though, cognacs and such as well.

Korbel is so dirt cheap here, I can't imagine anyone needing a "cheaper" one!

I worked for awhile as a hotel bartender down here in STL. Any time I saw the Badger bus pull up, I knew that for the next hour the only thing I would say is "Sorry, we don't keep brandy in stock" and "Yes, seriously, I can't make a brandy old fashioned". It is very much a Wisconsin thing.

As for me, I don't drink often, and it is even more rare that I'll drink mixed drinks. Recently, we went to a vodka bar down here called Sub Zero (with the bar made of ice, one of those places). They had quite a few different infused vodkas, I just had them mix with diet 7up. I enjoyed the watermelon. Nice fresh watermelon taste. Plus it was clear, so there was no telling the 6'8" giant was drinking a fru fru drink.

Otherwise, I enjoy knob creek neat, occasionally with ginger ale.

I just ran out of Pappy VW... if anyone knows where I can score some in the Milwaukee/Madison area.... either poured or (preferably) in a glass.... let me know!

Awesome.

My best friend would drink almost exclusively Raspberry Stoli & lemonade when we were in college. Well, that or some Jameson & Coke if we were mixing... we did eventually go to just Jameson on the rocks. But yeah, he took quite a bit of flack for the pink drink. He's only about 5'10", though, so maybe it made more sense. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

TLB's post reminded me I used to drink Raspberry Stoli and Red Bull when I was tired or new it would be a long night. The raspberry flavor took some of the edge off the Red Bull taste.

Now more of a Maker's or Woodford reserve on the rocks or even a Patron on the rocks if I have liquor. The old fashioned or T&T are also good winter/summer choices of mine.

I like Margaritas if I make them, most restaurant ones are way too sweet for my taste.

I make killer Bloody Mary's, it was my signature while bartending my way through college. I basically took my favorite parts of how about 3 different bars in La Crosse made their Bloodies and combined it into my own conconction.

Please mail me one of these. Or FedEx/UPS. Whatever's easier.

Ahh, a Del's bar alum! There are a ton of good bars in La Crosse for Bloodies...great drinking town!

I added a minor and lowered my credit load just so I can go back next year for a 5th and final year at UW-La Crosse and continue tearing up 3rd Street

Del's bloodies are obviously amazing, but I think I actually like The State Room's bloodies a little more across the street.

I've recently discovered Pisco. It's in the brandy family and is primarily consumed in Peru and Chile. I guess it's a huge battle between the two countries as to who has better Pisco and who made it first. The drink most commonly associated with it is the Pisco Sour.....and it's flippin' delicious.

Not sure if this is trendy, or new, or what...but I was introduced to a lemonade and Iced Tea flavored Jeremiah Weed this weekend. I'd never heard of it, although I am so far out of the loop, I don't recall what the loop looks like. Delicious, refreshing, perfect for sitting in a river on a 100 degree Missouri day.

Not really fit for the dog days of summer, (especially down here in SE AZ), but the classic Hot Toddy is my favorite drink. Boil the water WITHOUT the booze, but with plenty of fresh squeezed lemon juice and LOTS of honey. When heated appropriately, add a brown liquor. Jim Beam or Crown Royal work well, but brandy is just as tasty. One batch of those after shoveling out your driveway or during a Packers' game is enough to ease the physical and mental pain of the winter!
